So about a week ago I posted on here asking wether I should get an FN FAL or a DS ARMS FAL. So baseicly I'm not really interested in the DS arms after everything I heard. So someone on there mentioned the Springfield SAR 48 and I did some research and I heard there really high quality and are more accurate then FNs FAL. So what I wanna know is which is better in terms of accuracy, reliability and overall quality and preformance. I don't care at all about resell value or price I just wanna know what the raw preformance is and nothing else. Also some people might try to bring up the DS ARMS and ask why I'm going aginst that its just many reason and I would rather leave that out of this topic since I'm pretty convinced that the FN and springfield are way better.

Anyways looking forward to hearing your guys take on this.

Thanks in advance!

A SAR48 is going to be a less expensive option over a Belgian FN FAL.

In the long run the Belgian FAL will have higher resell value.

If funds are not an issue, get which ever you prefer.

I really like the SAR48.  I'd like to find a Para version of the SAR48...

If you are going to shoot, get the SAR48, if you are going to have a safe queen, get the FAL.

You will find no measurable difference in quality or accuracy between the SAR48 and the FN made guns.   There is your answer.

Unless you buy an FN with the cast flash hider, in which case when it banana peels you will have an accuracy issue until you replace it.

So all things being equal, it does come down to money, with the SAR48 somewhere about 50% of the price of the FN.

I should have kept mine. It was an 18 inch gun. Sold it, a month later I found out my Father in law had an FNC and would have been interested in my SAR48

It is at best related, but not terribly useful.

Back in the late 80s bought a SAR 48 Bush rifle ie fixed stock, 18" para bbl, short FH made by Imbel.  I modified it with a Israeli forward assist charging handle as I hunted with mine.  It was nice to quietly chamber a round after I got in the stand.  Made my longest kill with that rifle on a deer at 300m with a 2.5x scope mounted on top.  Left that rifle at home when I went to Germany shortly after I got it and there picked a used FN FAL with a Douglas match bbl.  That one was accurate but couldn't bring it back as George H. Bush had signed the assault weapons bill that barred me from importing it so no comparison (got from a good friend for a dollar and passed it along for another buck).  I've always found the FALs to be reliable and accurate enough.  Was with EOD that found couple FALs buried in the sands of Kuwait in the mid 90s.  After a good cleaning they both worked.

It's a roundabout praise for the SAR 48, and wistful regret at having parted with an example.

"I should have kept [my SAR 48]. It was an 18 inch gun. Sold it, a month later I found out my Father in law had an FNC and would have been interested in my SAR 48." (presumably because F-i-l is/was into FN-designed firearms?)

If you are looking for a shooter why buy factory builds.  An SAR48 is an Imbel.  Buy and Imbel kit gun and be done with it for $1,000.

I've owned quite a few FAL's, and my pick is HANDS DOWN the SAR-48.

I have owned every FN FAL model over the years. I own one FAL now, fixed stock early SAR 48. They are built as the original FNFAL G1 models. Imbel still produces them today!

I wouldn't want a Belgian cast Type 3...especially at a price point wherein I could have two forged SAR-48 type 3.

To each their own.

I stand corrected : after looking around a little it seems there is about $1250-1500 difference between a Belgian cast and SAR48.
