I recently had my great grandfathers custom FN Mauser passed down to me . It appears it is a .244 . It chambers fine but does not eject when the bolt is pulled all the way to the rear. Im guessing a new extractor would be the fix. Would a standard 98K German extractor fit an FN or is there a specific model for it ? I know numich carries many extractors. Just need to know which to order . UPDATE Ok I cleaned and lubed the ejector and now I think its functioning right. Thing is it locks in the open position and clicks back down to closed. I have not seen this before and wondered if anyone has seen this . |

A lot of customized Mauser actions had the extractor stoned to allow closing the bolt on a round slipped into the chamber.
That stoning often caused extraction and ejection problems if it was over done. Check the extractor as above. You can try bending it, or buy a new one from Brownell's: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=9490/Product/MAUSER-EXTRACTOR The ejector is fairly simple. As long as the "Box" has enough spring tension on the actual ejector it should work properly. Usually, if the spring tension is weak, the ejector box will not have enough "snap" when it's pulled open and released, or it may even be loose on the receiver and free to move in and out slightly. If the spring tension is good, just install most any large ring standard Mauser ejector. The ejector is simply pulled out and a new one pushed in once the ejector box is removed from the receiver. |
