My son's reserve unit is getting alot of the FN m-16 and I was wondering how they compare to the Colt. Do they hold up as well?

Built to the same TDP, should work as well as the colts.

Some think the FN's are better quality. I wouldn't mind having either.

All of the weapons in my unit were made by FN.  The M-16s worked very well.  I saw no quality difference in them and the Colts and would gladly take either.  Their finish might actually have been a little nicer than most of the Colts I've carried.

I've carried the FN M16 before, and I thought it was a damn fine rifle.

IMHO, YMMV, IANAL, etc.

The ones i handled in boot camp were so beat to shit it almost made me cry. Tossed around and man handled in every worst condition possible but STILL maintained its perfect accuracy and hardly jammed

Had a brand new one as my issued weapon (joint assignment) from 1998 to 2000.  Deployed with it and never had any problems (take care of it and it will take care of you).  I felt the fit and finish was better  than the similar Colt (my dad worked for Colt back then and even he was not satisified with the fit and finish of what they were selling to the armed forces back then, for reference he started with Colt in 1960 and did  34 years with them before retiring) but operationally both the Colt and the FN offer the same reliability.

When I deployed after 9-11 I deployed with a new (I mean it did not even have a stratch on) Colt M16-A1 (Air Force comm guy).  I had no problems with it either, though I was not happy when they upgraded it to the A2 configuration (missed my full auto rock n roll).
