Ok... I have a 7" barreled ar-15 pistol that I just built from help on this site. 5.56 and a .22 ciener kit. I want to put a stock on it.. and I know I have to make it a SBR. so... can anyone walk me thru the form? I have the form printed out.. yes front and back as required... and ready to fill it out.. just dont want to do it wrong and have to do it again... so.. can anyone please help... question 2a thru the rest.. lol especially... where it asks: REASON for this weapon... other than "SBR's are KICK-AZZ to look at... what legit reason (since im not going to use it for other than plinking basically) and looks.. should i put down so my CLEO and the BATF will aprove it? Thanks to all that can help. Steve. |

"All lawful purposes" is the conservative answer. "Because chicks dig 'em" is the funny answer. Both will get approved. As I understand it, anything short of "to rob the local bank" will get approved. I used the former on my first Form 1. Before it is all said and done, I'll have the latter on a Form 1/4. |

Anyone want to hold my hand and walk me further thru this such as... to be clear... am I the transferee? or transferor? ect.? lol Manufacturer? I built this from a kit. it has a dpms lower or am I the manufacturer? Caliber... I have it as 5.56mm but will change tops occationally to 9mm ect. so, do i put in all the diff calibers? or multi? or it wont matter? So basically... I am Joe Q. Public with no ffl.. no crimal record.. no nothing other than just a law abiding citizen... can someone tell me which of the 2a - 15 lines I need to fill in? I do not want to do this incorrectly and have to do it again or be denied. Please help. Steve. -----> aka. Dumbass.. lol |

First off, you are looking at the wrong form. A Form 4 is used to transfer an NFA item which is already registered. If you want to put a shoulder stock on an AR15 pistol, you must first enter it into the Registry by filing a Form 1. So download a Form 1 and start from there.
For reason, put "all lawful purposes." It will get approved. |

ok... so i need to send it in duplicate... so i print it out... sign it.. and make copies? or do i have to fill it out twice? also... does my CLEO have to sign 2 forms... or do i just have to have him sign 1 and then make a copy of that and send it in? I am sorry that im being a total dumb ass in this.. but it is the first time i have gone thru this and dont want to ... opps... Screw up.. lol.. I truely appreciate all the help you guys are giving me. Steve. |

You can fill it out, make a copy, and then you and the CLEO each sign both copies. The signatures all must be originals in ink. Then you send in the two copies. BATFE puts a tax stamp on one and sends it back to you; they keep the other one for their files. They want theirs to have original signatures (not photocopied sigs) and you want original ink signatures on your copy, too, for legal purposes. |
