I have an FR7, should be same sight, the picture on the right looks correct. Went and tried to sight it both ways, using the left picture you have to elevate the barrel quite a bit, when sighted like the right picture the barrel is level. I suspect it is correct, but I'd like to verify this from someone who's familiar with how sights of this type are meant to work or ideally someone who has access to a manual covering this (the FR-8's marksmanship manual is difficult to find; I've never even seen a picture of one). I'll have to check the next time I handle an FR-8, but it seemed that the notch as deeper than that on the CETME, whose sight is the kind depicted in the above images. I'm also curious as to whether anyone has tried using the sling as a shooting aid (the proper way, not the hasty sling) with one of these rifles. I'm curious as to whether or not the tension on the barrel is sufficient to change the point of impact, considering how the sling is attached in front. I translated more of one of the CETME manuals today and it states the intent for the soldier to use the sling as a shooting aid in any of the field positions if he has the time to sling up and describes how to do this. Given that the CETME sling is attached in the same manner, I'd imagine any effects on POI would be the same between the two rifles. |

I have never used the 100m portion of the FR-8 sight. If I did the right side is how I would do it. I set mine up with the 200m blade and sight it in for 50yds. Good enough from 0-250 with a center hold. I prefer to keep my sights properly regulated. I do use the peep sometimes at shorter ranges, and you don't have to hold under much to be on at 100m. But peep sights are not great if speed is necessary or if moving or under low-light conditions. A ghost ring aperture is much better as far as aperture sights go. While I'd like to know about what I posted for my own usage, I also am interested because I want to incorporate the information into an FR-8 manual in the marksmanship section. For that I do need to know for sure how the open sight is meant to be used for imprecise shooting. |
