I have a m1a that won't cycle after firing. It seems the bolt is not unlocking smoothly enough although it could be in the gas system . It is/has been cleaned, I hadn't fired it for several months , it was working fine before. I'm not real familiar with the m1 gas system if that could be the problem ,what would I check?

The 2 stage trigger engagement seems to be a hard point if you cycle the action slowly by hand.

I don't much about the M1A, but I know a lot about the Garand.

First thing I would check is that it is properly greased.  Make sure no grease has solidified in the op-rod bolt recess.  I've seen more Garands malfunction because of a lack of grease.

Also, should of asked this first, is it not moving the bolt at all or short cycling?

Better check the gas cut-off valve in the gas piston housing, is the gas on or off?

The rifle is manualy operated if the gas valve is off.

Gas plug tight?  Don't ask why I would ask this!

Hey it's finally working ,both the M1a and the "internets"
It was the gas valve, I must have closed it when I cleaned it last like I said I'm new to this weapon, I don't remember turning it but it was closed
Thanks for the replies.
