After 3 months FedEX tried to deliver my ammo order. Left a note on door needs signature? How are suppose to sign for something when you are at work? Stoped at the local FedExd dist center, no my package is coming out of another city 80 miles away? Finally made contact with a customer rep and she is going to try to reroute to my work location tomorrow. Did I miss something from CMP about the shipping requiring a signature? If I have to go 80 miles I could go to the north store! UPS just leaves stuff at the door.

I don't see it posted on the sales page but it is a "sticky" in the Ammunition Forum from Orest Michaels:

Folks,

I posted some erroneous information, based on 32nd hand information. Correct information from both FedEx and UPS is that all ammunition shipments must be signed for (cannot waive this requirement). This ia a DoT requirement and neither FedEx nor UPS can change that. CFR49

I missed a delivery from Fed Ex last year and told them to hold it at the depot and they still attempted delivery a second time. They finally got it right and I picked it up at the depot.   If I lived 80 miles from the North Store I'd probably be there every week and be broke.

I've been ordering ammo online for years.  Adult signature is always required for ammo.

Everything that I can remember ordering from CMP arrives 'signature required'
I believe there is a blurb on the FAQ page about this as well as several posts in their forums.

just sign the sticker on your door, leave it on the door, and Fed-ex should leave it the next day.  They have for me.

Yep, everything I have ever received from the CMP required a sig.

The CMP ammo orders I've received were delivered by a different FedEx service than the one in my town. It's some sort of independent driver contracted to FedEx. When this happened to me, I called the number of the hang tag and the talked to the driver. I told him I worked and he agreed to leave the package the next day. You might see if there's a number of the tag. I might be worth a shot . . . or maybe he'll agree to deliver it to your place of work.

The ammo comes from FedEx Ground, whch was another company that FedEx bought. And they are independant contractors.

If you only live 80 miles from the north store why in the hell did you choose to wait months for your ammo and now have to deal with shipping???????    Take a drive one day with the miss's and pick up what you want in one day!

+1

What's with all the complaining about CMP from people who live within driving distance of the north store?  2nd post I read today.

I received ammo shipped UPS and did not need to sign for it.. I guess someone messed up on that one?

+1.  This should come as no surprise.  Have them hold it at the distribution center and pick it up, if you won't be available.

Thats the way its always been. Must have a adult signature  , would you expect them to leave a firearm laying on the front porch for anyone to steal?
If you cannot be home you can have it delivered to another address of a friend , parents, etc. Thats what I do

Because they were out of ammo when I was there!

I've been selling off some of my CMP ammo stash mainly because my eyes have gotten pretty lousy shooting with irons. I ship the ammo UPS, and do it all correctly with ORM-D small arms ammuntion stickers on the package. I take it to the UPS hub and simply hand it over to the clerk. Payment and everything has been done previously online including printing the shipping label.  Signature required is an OPTION that the shipper can waive..but only the shipper can make that call. I typically ask the purchaser if he wants the signature required waived or not..because I know what a PIA it is when you're not home to sign for it.
FedEx is a different story. I don't use them because shipping ammo with UPS is much easier. The CMP ships everything they sell FedEx and I'm sure it's because FedEx gives them a better rate that UPS.
All I'm trying to say is if your ammo is being shipped UPS, you can ask the shipper to waive the signature required. Some companies probably won't do it for liability issues...Hope this clears the air a little.

UPS leaves ammo, pistols, and rifles on my door step all of the time with no signature.

Yep, but not from the CMP.

The CMP uses FedEx Home Delivery. They are "Independent Contractors" for FedEx and the drivers bid on routes. Do a search on FedEx Home Delivery and see the complaints. Some a good, but most are average to below drivers.

My first HD driver lied not once, but twice about trying to deliver ammo to me. I was home both times and he never came by, but entered into the computer systems that "No one was home.".

He was caught doing that to alot of people as well as mis-delivering packages and was let go.

The one I have now, is pretty good, so I hope he stays around for a while.

FedEx Home Delivery gave the CMP the lowest bid, so it's what we have to work with when ordering from them.

Just to clarify, guns from CMP require a signature.   I honestly don't remember about my CMP ammo order.  But I will say I have gotten a lot of other ammo deliveries and did NOT require a signature.  Perhaps it's a shipper choice.  i.e FedEx vs UPS.

Every ammo order from the CMP has to have an Adult Signature. Orest posted that in the ammo forum. It's a sticky there.
