Fightlite feed tray question

Is the Fightlite feed tray interchangeable with a M249 feed tray?

I have a Fightlite upper and if I can save a couple hundred on a spare part I would ideally like to, but there seams to be no info out there. If someone out there has tried, it’d be awesome posting your experience with what parts are interchangeable with the M249.

No, not directly interchangeable. The original Shrike feed tray was based on the 249 feed tray, but it was modified by ARES. I know one guy who modified an M249 feed tray for his own Shrike use, but he has serious metal-working skills.

+1, I have an original Shrike w/ the modified 249 tray that has always run great. I picked up a spare 249 tray that I still haven't gotten around to modifying. You would need to fabricate new 'ears', cut off the ones off the original 249 tray then TIG on the new 'ears'.

On a related note, the machined steel feed trays I think do help to guide bullet better than the thin sheet metal 249 tray but I haven't had any issues with mine.
Someone posted some time ago some really good pics on what he did which was to TIG some steel tubing to the feed tray. The tubing was cut off to make a feed guide. That looked like a more stout option than the polymer feed insert that someone used to sell.

I had issues with the aluminum feed tray with my Shike. But the steel feed tray has run flawlessly. Definitely a good upgrade if you have one of the aluminum feed trays. Probably wouldn't be worth messing around with a M249 tray through.

I'd just buy one at those ridiculous price if you have a aluminum one. Always thought it was a weird choice going with aluminum.
