Hey guys,

Is it possible to file the proper NFA paperwork from an APO address overseas while deployed?  I'd really like to get myself a Colt LE6921 when I get back, and as always, am the impatient type, and I'd like to be able to, if possible, to pick it up as soon as I get home.

Can I get started on that whole transfer process while still out here?  Or is there something I don't know about that would preclude me from doing it in absentia.  I'm completely new to this NFA thing, so please, go easy on me.  I could have read the tacked threads, but I suspected that they wouldn't address the issue of filing NFA paperwork while deployed.

Considering that a lot of the gear on my issued M4 here is mine anyways, and I've got two and a half Title I M4geries already at home, I think it's time for me to take the jump and go NFA, and get as genuine M4 civilian style as possible.  I've gotten pretty attached to my M4.

Thanks,
~Augee

Leo signoff would be a problem unless you have a trust.

Call a dealer, buy it now, have them hold it for you. File paperwork when you RTB. The long waiting time is not some much the F4's but getting the actual device to your dealer with the backlog.

ETA I bough nearly 20 title 1 guns this way and got a NFA deal going while I was in the shitbox for a year. it was like xmas when I got home. I just had the dealer keep them for me.

BuffDragon makes a good point: Can you get prints and photos taken where you are?

My CLEO requires that you drop off your paperwork in person at his main information desk and they check your ID. But I'm sure that is just a department policy decision, there's no legal requirement for this. So, if your CLEO will accept forms through the mail, then I guess you're good. Your request is certainly reasonable. Perhaps you could include a letter with your form(s) telling them who/where you are and that you'll be home shortly. Maybe your CLEO will cut you a break.

If they won't accept your form(s) via mailbox, ask your dealer if he can submit your paperwork on your behalf. Reputable dealers usually have a good working relationship with CLEO's.
