Well I picked up three Imbel kits from Dan's about 6 months ago and finally got time to build and refinish one.

Its built on a Imbel receiver. I had the barrel was cut down to 16" and rethreaded, the gas port was opened up a little and a Vortex 5.56mm FH was opened up to 7.62mm. The rifle works flwlessly with everything from 150gr surplus to 168 & 175 gr BH. it seems to like the 168's the best averaging right at 3.25" @ 100 yds.

I refinished it in a digital pattern and used CeraKote thermal on the metal and CeraKote ambient on the stock, grip, handguards, and optic (hood & Battery cover only). The colors are dark earth, dark od green, federal brown, & graphite black on the sights, sling swivels, controls, BCG, and gas regulator.

After putting on the EO Tech the cheek to stock weld isnt that great. I refinished some McMillian A3's that had Kurts Custom's adjustable cheek piece's on them. So I'm going to see if I can modify the stock and cheek piece to work. I will probably have to fabricate some threaded metal sleeves to go inside the hollow stock but it shoudnt be that difficult.

Nice work. You could find a StG buttstock pretty cheap; it has a higher comb.

That looks really good!

I used one of Karsten's adjustable cheekpieces, wasn't very difficult, just had to make sure to avoid the buffer tube.

why not just get a vortex in 7.62 from smith enterprise?  They make them in .308.

I had a 7.62 Vortex for it. It was the diameter of the barrel, it was too small. Since it was cut down and rethreaded to a right hand twist George (owner of G.A. Precision rifles did all of the machine work) recommended a 5.56 opened up to 7.62. When George tells me something will work better I dont question it. he has forgotten more about building rifles than I will ever know.

But in the end the switch work out great, I kept the 7.62 for my 300WM

George @ G.A. Precision opened it up for me.
