I work at a machine shop that manufactures pipeline leak repair products so I get access to scrap every now and then.

Im not sure if the plate is suitable for anything other than the 9mm I plan shooting at it but I might get brave and try my AK at it from far away.

Plate is a scrapped completion plug made of SA516 GR.70. Its 1 1/2" thick with an O.D. of 15". Weighs at least 60lbs. I have no idea what its hardness is, which is why I'm wary of rifle rounds.

I used square tubing, angle iron, and round tubing for the bracket. I still need to make the frame that will hang the plate similar to a bench press so it can swing without twisting.

I'm nervous about shooting at it for the first time, any advice or tips are always appreciated. I plan on shooting from 25 yards with a pistol.
The pics:

The holes on the back are threaded for lifting it for its original purpose in case anyone was wondering. Could the o-ring groove machined on the side pose any safety issues?

Awesome target. 1 1/2 inch thick. You can shot anything at that except 50BMG.

I have a man sized 3/4 deck plate that I've shot with a 300 win mag and it almost went thru. I have shot it with 8mm Mauser, 308 win, 5.56 NATO. Distance is 100 yards, handguns are 25 yards. Something you might consider is to weld a plate onto the arm that has holes in it to match the bolt pattern of the plate. That way, when the plate gets too beat up, you can just change it out.

Looks good. 60 pounds though, that's a heavy plate. I don't think it's going to move much with a pistol.

I finished the stand today. Yeah I doubt a pistol round will budge it, it sucks I wont be able to test it out for awhile.
