| I'd bag the rifle front and rear and try again, taking time to line up your sights I'm also thinking maybe a click left and a click down, and you should be real close... After you get it dialed in, I agree with above post on sling use.. Bench shooting is great for sight in, But you can't always take the bench with you... |

What kind of groups do you usually get with iron sights at that distance? I have found I can shoot much smaller groups with a garand than a 20" AR15. The Garand 2 stage trigger is like an expensive target trigger, very precise. Is your rifle tight? As in no slop in front or rear sights. Action fits tight in stock with good tight lockup? |
I'm the opposite, I shoot tighter groups with the AR with GI iron sights. I think it's my garand handguards or the stock fit though. It starts out good then starts to spread. I've pulled out the AR a couple times to make sure I'm not falling apart on my fundamentals. I wish my garand was less touchy. |
In highpower competition, the M1 was always praised for the "hangs" in the offhand position, it's a very ergonomic design. The longer sight radius will also help with group size too. |
I don't really have a comparison. I'm mostly a pistol shooter, but age being what it is, I'm starting to move over to rifles. I shot two out of ten clays at that distance a couple weeks ago with my AR.
Everything appears to be tight, again, no real comparison, I've shot maybe twice before with Garands that the club owns. |
From the above, it sounds like you are relatively low time with irons on a rifle platform. If that is the case, your groups are good. You aren't yet shooting to the ability of the rifle. Now, practice, and practice a lot. |
