Getting ready to start my first SBR build and need opinions. Are there any advantages with going the  typical non free float with A2 front sight post vs free float with front and rear pop up sights? Any helpful info would be appreciated.

i started out with a kac ras and fsp, now have a free float quad rail. no advantage really to the non free float. easier install would be the only i can think of right off hand. i have noticed the free float seems not to get as hot as fast as the standard. still gets hot though. really a personal preference thingy. good luck!!!

What Kinkbmx said.

A drop-in rail will get you 95% of the way "there".

Unless you're benchresting your AR, you don't need a FF rail.

ARFCOM blasphemy, I know, but unless you're doing everything (i.e. match ammo, high grade optics, high quality barrel, competition trigger, etc.) any single item isn't going to do much for you.

IMO FF if you want the HG past the gas block for looks or comfortable grip. If length is not a problem drop ins are great, I like my Surefire, they are small enough for a good grip even with rail covers and very durable.
