Howdy to all and a Happy New Year!

Got my Sig 556 classic in last week.

Not a bad looking gun but a few things not thrilled about.   Overall gun looked nice.  Made in May 2010 with ser. # JT017xxx
Got it  cleaned up and took it tout to run some ammo today.
Took 80 rnds of S&B 55 gr.
40 rnds of Wolf poly 62gr.
100 rnd. of Wolf poly 55 gr.
20 rnds of PMC 55 gr.  I got about 25 years ago.

Again.   I really like this platform and mainly purchased it to shoot wolf through as I will save my brassed ammo for the AR.

OK.   I took the SIG mag and one Pmag.   Was going to take a USGI but left home without it.

Loaded up wolf in one mag and S&B in the other.  Ran about 15 rnds of brass with no problems.   Shot a little low but I had not set my sights yet.   This was a function trip, not a sight in trip.
Then stuck the other mag in with wolf 55gr and  Shot first rnd. OK and then nothing.   Rnd did not pick up and chamber.   OK, tried again.
Same thing.   Switched to the 62 gr and same thing.  Bolt is comeing back and ejecting spent case but niot picking up the next rnd.   I can see the marks of the bolt across the top of the case, just not picking it up.
I then switched the gas adjustment and still did not pic up.  Tried 4 rnds of PMC with no problems and then 20 rnds of S&B with no problems.  Tried the wolf in the other mag and still would no pick up the next rnd.
So it seems Wolf is not either powerfull enough to cycle bolt all the way back or the case diameter is just a tad bit smaller.   I shot 20 more rnds of the S&B and still shot and functioned just fine.
next outing will take a USGI mag and see what happens.  But does dent the crap out of the mouth of the case when ejectiing.   And beats the crap out of the receiver...
Any body else ahve any problems with Wolf not working?
Will post again after I shoot some more ammo and try a few other mags.

Wolf ammo is generally anemic and not good for breaking in rifles. Save it for when you have at least 500 rounds and preferably 1000+ rounds through your rifle. Also, the SIG magazines are generally regarded as CRAP. You put the two together and you have malfunction city. Use good quality Mags (P-Mag, C-Prrducts, Lancers) and a decent ammo and you will be fine.  As for the marring of the receiver, its common. the cartridge smacks it pretty good and leaves a mark. If it bothers you, you can cover it up with a strip of velcro the next time out. The receiver is Nitron finished Stainless Steel, nothing to worry about.

Take the sig mag and stomp it into pieces and you should never have another mag related problem with your 556.  I use pmags and usgi mags.  The only stopage I've ever had with my sig was with the factory mag.  I shoot wolf military classic and wolf performance all the time without any issues.   A lot of AR's choke if you mix steel and brass cased ammo in the same shooting session.  I haven't had a problem with the 556 doing that.  Maybe I just got a good one.  David

First time I took out my 556 Classic Patrol Carbine, I think I ran a total of 250 rounds of Wolf and Brown Bear ammo. Inter-mixed was about 100 rds of my 55gr M193 clone reloads and 100 or so rounds of that crap ADCOM M855 from the UAE with the '99 headstamp that everyone loves to hate.
I was just unloading some old preban mags of their contents in prep for putting them prebans on the EE for sale.

The 556 classic patrol ran 99%. Only malfunction was with an old Orlite mag, and that was the mags problem. The mag didn't feed 1 time, the second shot. I think that I may have stuffed 31 rds in there and it was bound up. Who cares though, $10 cheapie mag, not the rifles fault.

Since then I've run close to a thousand rounds more of assorted 55gr Wolf, 55gr Brown Bear, 55gr handloads,M196 Tracer reloads, PMC hotshot M855, and some more 62gr Adcom. No issues. None.
I'm now using PMAGS, SS Para Ord 30rd mags, and some Colt USGI 20rd and 30rd mags.

I cannot wait to finish my NFA trust and SBR this patrol rifle. Adco here it comes!!

+1, the only FTF in the 2K rounds through my Sig556 was with the factory mag.  The front of the follower got stuck and when the bolt tried closing, the tip of the bullet caught the feedramp and was pushed back into the casing!  I Dumped the Sig mag and not a single problem since and my Sig will cycle everything.

And here I thought it was just my rifle with the Sig mag issues....................

I like in Maryland and they restrict 30 rd. mags, so when I got my 556 they had to send me a 20 rd. Pmag. I guess I don't know what I am missing by not having an unreliable factory mag. The Pmag and all my other mags work just fine.

My SIG didn't like my weak plinking handloads, and would periodically not feed them.

Wolf is underloaded big time. my SIG will cycle it without a problem but I can not shoot the rifle left handed due to the casings going strait across and sometimes back instead of forward and right at 45 deg. That said I have fired about 1k rounds of mixed brass and steel and it hasn't had a problem. Love the platform but I got sick of the damn crap furniture on it and got a awesome Swiss set.

Weird, mine launches the brass about 10 yards at 2:00.
Every time.

Sucks for shooting in the snow cause it launches the brass beyond where the snow is stomped down and the brass is generally un-recoverable. That is why I've been shooting Wolf and Brown Bear in the cold months so I don't have to worry about tracking down brass.
