| Got mine approved today e-filed on 8/29. Did mine the trust route now off to the engraver. |

What if the engraver ruins the receiver or it gets lost/stolen? Never heard of getting it engraved after approval…. Quoted:

Never heard of getting it engraved after approval…. Congrats! Mine is still waiting approval as I filed on 9/15. I got it engraved during the down time. I have it back in hand and it's built up as a pistol until the approval gets in. |

Not saying it's the best decision, but people do it all the time. Not much different than getting it engraved after you submit but before it's approved, which is when I've had all mine done. |

Why would you not just get in engraved before sending out application? |

I had one engraved before before stamp approval, but it was engraved for free by a local guy that wanted to try it out.
I also had one engraved after, and this was on a custom lower I didn't want to have engraved if it didn't get approved for any reason. Honestly, there are reasons for doing it each way: Before: If the engraver messes up, you don't waste the tax stamp and application. Quickest time to get SBR built after approval, no wait! After: If it isn't approved, you don't have your trust engraved on a lower you now can't sell. This also accounts for an approved form with a typo that wasn't caught (not often I know). Honestly, I just think it is personal preference. |

Congrats!
E-Filed mine on 8-24, got nothing. Bummer. Hopefully soon. FYI, if you have a conventional non billet AR lower with a removable trigger guard, just engrave on the bottom of the trigger guard. It is allowable and a friend of mine did that. If the engraver slips, no worries, get another cheap guard piece. |

I have never seen the guard itself engraved.............would have thought that wasn't considered a permanent part of the receiver. Wouldn't thatt be like engraving the buffer tube, stock, handguard, sight, or any other non-permanent part? |

It must meet three criteria: 1. Be a minimum of .003" (there is no 1/16" height requirement for anything except serial number) 2. Be conspicuously placed (always up for interpretation) 3. Be on the frame, receiver, barrel or pistol slide (if applicable) Stocks, grips, handguards, trigger guards, etc are not acceptable. |
