Hey Guys. Just starting some research on my first can. I want this for my 6.5 Grendel mostly, but would like it for 5.56 and maybe 22 as well. I can leave it off the 22 if need be if it is too dirty for it.
What are your opinions on a good first can? I like the Omega but not looking to spend $1,130 on one right now. What is out there that will fit my wants for a reasonable price? Thanks! |
| The omega shouldn't run for that much. I use an omega on my 6.5 grendel, as well as my 300blk, and a few different 556. I wouldn't however use it on 22, and can only recommend against using any sealed can on 22. look around at different places, the omega can usually be had around $900. |

Only if you already had .30 cans, I'd suggest the Thunderbeast 6.5 Ultra 7 or 9. They are terrific on the 6.5s and .223s. But, as your first, definitely get a .30 can, unless you're absolutely, positively certain that you'll never want a .30 caliber. I was absolutely, positively certain that DT could not win the Presidential election. If I was starting now with an Omega, I'd sell the included Omega ASR mount pieces, and put the money towards the Dead Air mount system -now also made for the Omega. |

Is $650 including tax stamp? If not the AAC 762 SDN 6 is just a tick above $650. I do not personally have one but I have seen great things about it. Edit: I might also add that Capitol Armory has the Silencerco Harvester for $545 Dang, that seems like a good buy on the Harvester. Would that be a solid can to start with? It would mainly be used for coyote hunting at night on the 6.5. |
| I can only speak for one suppressor brand, but the YHM Phantom M2s are a good suppressor, and inexpensive. YHM's QD mounts are the easiest to use of several that I looked at while shopping for my first can. They can be found for $575-600 if you look around. PSA usually has them in stock. |

Appreciate all the input...please keep them coming.
I am concerned with weight and would like to keep in reasonable. That's why I am liking the looks of the Harvester right now. What about the Gemtech Tracker? Its around 11 oz and cheaper than the Harvester. I don't want to pay less and get a lot less though. |

Weight is a huge factor if you hunt with your suppressor. My son and I mostly predator hunt, but do some hog hunting too; nothing can be too light, but anything can be too heavy when your humping it!
I would suggest the Omega since you intend to also use it on the 5.56. It is light, not too expensive and full auto rated, which translates to great hunting predators with the 6.5 or 5.56 and also to lots of fun shooting with 5.56. Fwiw, the Omega comes with both direct thread and QD mount set ups. Fwiw, I have two Omegas and use them on a 16" 6.8, 16 and 10.5" 5.56 and 9.5" 300BLK. I use an YHM ULT on an 11.5" 6.8 and it is a great light can too, and fully auto rated, but more expensive than the Omega. I haven't had any issues with the ASR QD mount but some don't like them. If you wanted to get away from the ASR mount there is a Ti Omega to HYM QD module available, and the YHM QD mount is the simplest and best available. JPK |

Alright, I have pretty well settled on the Harvester. I think it just best fits my application for now.
I wanted to check with you guys and see if you know of the best place/best price to buy one is? I found one for $521 on bayougunrunner. Don't know much about them though. Also, I assume this easiest just to find a place with the Kiosk close to me right? |

I'd also look at the Griffin Recce 7. I picked one up for just This gets my vote It got my vote for sure, awesome mount and can, especially for the money and does a great job on my 6.8. The CB version of the Ultra 7 looks like a kick ass can as well. |

One thing to consider with the Harvester: With .300 Blackout Supersonic, it's only approved for a minimum 16" barrel. The Hybrid and Omega are rated for an 8" barrel.
These specs can't all be found on their site (at least by me), but this is direct from a phone call with Silencerco. |

Seems like most are recommending something other than the Harvester. Haha. Choices! If sound is similar, I am not interested in paying $200 more for the mount option on the Recce 7 just because I won't be changing between weapons often. |

The Harvester is a great can for its intended purpose. It's light, it sounds good, the anchor brake works and it has interchangeable thread mounts to accommodate different barrel threads without the need for an adapter (and tolerance stacking). I know it's hard, but try to avoid crowd sourcing a suppressor. Pick the one that meets your requirements/needs and the trade-offs you're willing to accept and go with it. |

This too, they can be had from around $700 to $750, a nice can from what I see. Still waiting on my Form 4 to clear. It's never ending! I have decided to go with the Recce 7. After reading into them the mount comes with it. I would have another $70 added to the cost of the Harvester so price points are closer. Any ideas on a good price on one that's actually in stock? Can I go ahead and order one even if they aren't in stock since I won't be getting it for several months anyway? Not sure how that works. Probably not since I need the serial number to take to the kiosk. Quoted:

Done deal. Went with the Recce 7 and ordered it today. Thanks for all the help. Tomorrow will be one day closer.... Hopefully they are as fun and enjoyable as I hear about and I don't set too high of expectations. You won't be disappointed. I picked up my Recce 7 the middle of December and have had it out several times and shot 308, 300 blackout, and 5.56 without much need of ear pro. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Great can, Great mounts and just plain works!!!! Where did you end up getting it from? |

I was thinking about eventually trying the flash comp taper mount with it. Mine is just coming with the minimalist taper mount. |

Good to hear! I got it through Capitol Armory. Most other places were out of stock. I bought it then when back in a few minutes later and they were out of stock so I got lucky there. What mount are you using? I was thinking about eventually trying the flash comp taper mount with it. Mine is just coming with the minimalist taper mount. I'm using the minimalist taper on my 300 BO and 5.56 sbr uppers and the flash hider taper on my 16" barrels in 308 and 5.56. Griffin told me the brakes are better on the shorter barrels and act as a sacrificial baffle to prevent baffle erosion. They are not as necessary on longer barrels. I would look to Quiet Riot Firearms for the muzzle devices. They are $75 with free shipping and usually in stock. The Flash Hiders are a little harder to find right now though. |

What size threads are on your 6.5 Gren? Reason I ask is the Recce 7 that I am waiting to be released from NFA jail is coming with the 5/8x24 mount. I don't see what mount they are including with yours from Capital Armory. |
