I have an MSAR STG-556. I'm thinking about getting a .YHM 223 suppressor. Can the stock flash suppressor be removed and the YHM adaptor be put on in it's place?

are your threads 1/2x28TPI?  The way to know is whether or not the silver grenade ring is installed.

No ring means 1/2x28

Ring present means 13x1 metric threads

I got my flash hider off easily.  I just put a thin screwdriver in there and backed it down the slot as far as it would go and twisted it off.  The checknut requires heating it till it smokes a bit. A standard 3/4 wrench fits perfectly and will allow you to get it off if you desire to do so.

Hope that helps

If it is threaded 13-1LH than yes.  You will probably have to keep the check nut on the gun.

I don't see anything that looks like a ring. There is a small wire like some kind of clip around the end of the flash suppressor, but thats it.

That's the "ring."  You have metric threads.

This may help on identifying the thread pattern.

My metric threaded barrel with a YHM QD is supposed to be done on Monday.

I'll post pics when I get it.

The Halon is an excellent flash suppressor threaded specifically for the STG's metric bbl: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=43&t=322221

+1. It's matched to the finish of the STG's barrel and will not leave a gap in the threading. Flash suppression is pretty darn good as well.

Check out youtube and search FSG Halon, they've got some great videos.

You're planning on getting a YHM .223 Suppressor and want to get a Phantom flash hider for quick attach of the suppressor correct?

If so, you need to buy:

M13 X 1 Left-Hand Thread (YHM-3102-M13L) $78.00

Ratworx will re-thread any 1/2x28RH muzzle device to 13/1LH.  They just did an M-16A2 f/h for me.  $10.

What he said.

If you want the thread protector it is YHM part # 3114.

I bought mine from Brightflashlights, a site sponsor.  The FH was $66.50 shipped and the thread protector was $11.75 shipped but prices may have changed since I ordered.
