| So I want an extended slide release for my FNP 45, as I feel that is the primary deficiency in the gun, I wanted to get one like the glock extended slide release, but I know its too soon for such an aftermarket part to be available on the market. I called FN about 1-2 months ago and said they are putting all their resources into production and there are no spares available for purchase so I can make one, they then told me they mistyped in the manual when they referred to it as a slide release, that it is actually a slide stop, and that I should manually pull the slide back after reloading with a fresh mag...I think this takes too much time for a tactical reload. Any ideas on the best way to make one or any availability for spare ones as I don't want to F up the one on my gun. What would you all use? Cold weld? Real weld? Epoxy? Superglue? How would you all make and extended slide release that doesnt look like shit? |

"it is actually a slide stop, and that I should manually pull the slide back after reloading with a fresh mag.." That is true for every semi-auto handgun, including Glock. Increased wear on slide stop, less than full compression of recoil spring potentially adversely effecting chambering. |
| But it seems if you are doing a proper reload, you can cut reload time in less than half as you drop mag w/ your right thumb right as you bring up the 2nd, slide it in, immdediately drop slide w/ the same thumb you dropped release on, and bam your on target, as opposed to drop mag, bring mag into grip, move same said hand to slide, pull back, then have to bring back to sight picture, I mean, it seems life and death longer...I prefer slide release for "fast" reloads. I havent had any mischamberings. How does wear on the stop effect it?? It seems the only way would be prematurly letting the slide drop, but that would take "alot" of wear...In fact I was told by some not to do that by some as it takes the full strength of the slide to properly chamber, that you are at more risk if you do it manually. |
