I bought a maverick 88 (yes i know its cheap) but its all i can spare right now. Im already waiting to order the KNOXX SpecOP stock for it but the other problem im having is the forend.  The plastic and loose forend it comes standard with sucks.  I was wondering if there is a way i can buy a new forend that has new rods that might make a tighter fit or something that can make the forend not so loose.  So far i cant find any replacement parts or replacement forend for the maverick 88.  I guess this is what i get for being broke

Mossberg has replacement parts for the Maverick. Save the money on the stock, sell the 88 and buy a 870, 500 or 1300. Spend your money on a good gun before you put on the mud flaps, reflectors and bell.

That loosy goosy forearm is a characteristic of the Mossy 500 line, of which your 88 is a direct cousin. "fraid theres not much to be done for it.

As for the Knox stock...Well your stock should never exceed the value of the weapon it's put on. I'm not being a Gucci gear advocate here. Just offering some common sense advice.

Sell the 88, save up anouther $100.00 and buy a 18" Remmy express with a 6 shot tube or a Winchester 1300 Defender and you'll have a much better start on where your looking to go.

We have thoroughly tested the Maverick 88 (thousands of rounds) and found them to be extremely durable and reliable tools. We have found several that didn't function properly out of the box , but we have had similar experiences with Remington and Winchester. Our new product testing is extremely rigorous and we beat the guns up hard. The Mavericks hang in there.

So what is the difference between a Maverick 88 and  Mossberg 500?
1) The forend is molded to the action bar assembly. Not a problem unless you want to change forends or add a Surefire light.
2) Safety is relocated to trigger group. All you guys who love Remingtons shouldn't fault this.
3) Finsh is not as nice as on  the 500. You accept the cheap finish on the cheapie Rems, but somehow it's not acceptable on the Maverick.

So what is the same between a Maverick 88 and  Mossberg 500?
1) The receiver is identical except for the top mounted safety cutout. They are even built at the same plant on the same machines.
2) Design and parts-All directly interchangeable with each other.

I get tired of the arrogance of those who don't understand that some people can't afford to,  or choose not to, buy the high priced spread . The Maverick 88 is an exceptional bargain and, after a good shakeout to confirm function, is ideal for HD or anything else the proud owner should choose to do with it.

As to the SpecOps Stock, If the stock fits, BUY IT!

I havent shot a lot of rounds through it, maybe 50 at most but no reliability issues at all, and i got a 12 gauge pump with 18 bbl for 150 is a steal.

This is an incredible statement from someone who uses this forum and other gun sites to promote his products without becoming a paying industry partner. Could it be that you favor Mossberg products because more of you products are configured for Mossberg or Maverick products?

Anyone who has read this forum for any amount of time knows that I prefer Remington products but advocate buying what you can afford and spending the extra money on shells and range time. You on the other hand would like to see people spend their extra money on your products. This is perfectly natural in that you are in business to make money but then again so is this site.

So is the check in the mail?

Cut knox some slack mike...I think he's only trying to help out a poster who is buying weapons from a money crunch position...I've been there many times before myself.

If I had'nt of staked out Gunbroker for a couple of months looking for absolutly the cheapest price on an FN Tactical Police ($450.00) I would not have been able to afford one either for what their going for, most places now days, As it is I'll spend months of skipping lunch at work and making all sorts of other sacrifices to build it up to it's full potential.....So I know a little about building weapons on the cheap.

The 88 is a fine weapon...genaric Mossberg....I'm just expressing my personal thoughts on the matter that I never liked the feel of the 500's. The 590 is a fine shotgun but regretably out of the price range stated.

The Remmy Express and the Winny 1300 Defender can both be found for between $260 and $290, which if you sell the 88 for around $170 to $190 is doable with saving the money from mowing a couple of yards.

I just want the guy to have a shotgun he's happy with and proud of....I'm really not a gucci gear commando...I'm just speaking from having owned all of the shotguns metioned above and in some cases several of the same model and their clones. Remington's, Winchesters, Mossbergs, Ithicas, Smith & Wessons, Charles Daly, FN....All of 'em

FN-TPS, I am fifty years old and have only been able to buy the guns I want for the past ten years. I hunted and shot with only three guns for many years and I know very well what it is like to not have money or not have the time to shoot due to working overtime.

At the same time I take exception with people who want to hump their products for free and in the same breath talk about arrogance. Telling someone that they should buy a enrty level shotgun but spent money on a very expensive stock, a stock that his company makes, priceless. MIKE.

Lets get this clear.  I already own a mossberg 88 (CaCruisin wasnt telling me to get a 88 and his stock) because at academy you can get it for 149.99. I bought it and put a pistol grip on it.  So i was gonna buy a stock anyway and KNOXX SpecOP stock with the reducing recoil properties would be great for a small frame guy like myself.  Also CaCruisin was letting me know that the maverick 88 may be the cheap end but its not a bad gun.

I decline to take your inference that I write out of self-interest personally. You don't know me and write because of your own issues.  I have always clearly stated my relationship with Knoxx and have heaped praise on competitors when deserved and never written negative comments about any competitive product, even when it was true. We sell more products for Remington than Mossberg or Winchester. The ratio is 10/8/1. My posts have always been what I believe to be true and correct. You will also find that most of my posts have been in answer to someone's question.

Of course I want people to try Knoxx products because I believe in them and use them, just as you believe in Remington 870. I do not consider it a mistake when someone buys a stock other than ours.  Each person's needs are different. If not, we could save a lot of money on tooling and just make one stock instead of five or six different models.

All of that aside, your attack on me  (thanks for sticking up for me, FN-TPS and RETZAM) is a RED HERRING. It didn't answer the question concerning whether my comments were true or false. It just diverted attention.

We almost went out of business three years ago and all of us here went without pay for a long time to see this company succeed. We found an angel investor last year who has provided the capital needed to get us going again. We are a the razor's edge until we reach break-even and stop spending his money. I have almost no busget for sponsoring this or any other board...as much as I would like to do it. I'm sure that once I have an advertising/promotions budget, we will sponsor this board. Mike, you can hold me to that.

No hard feelings on my part. I hope there are  none on yours.

Mike

CA Crusin is just doing the guy a favor.  Let's all take a couple of deep cleansing breaths.... Think about a happy time and place....  Exhale deeply and now I hope we all feel MUCH better.  Everyone who is in a happy mood can now leave time out.

Yes, I am a shameless Knoxx Supporter....  there I admitted it freely and clearly.  I DO happen to think that the Knoxx shotgun stocks are the best firearm accessory for a shotgun owner on the planet.  I like the way that the product does exactly what is says it will.  Knoxx has never paid me or given me a free stock or anything else of monetary value.

I like the way Knoxx sticks up for their customers.  When I was moving, I lost the stock bolt for my Knoxx Stock (don't ask how - the gun was disassembled at the time)  When I discovered it was gone, I called Knoxx expecting that they would rake me for $15.00 or so plus shipping and handling.

WRONG - Larry and the crew sent me a new stock bolt, postage paid, for free.  They like their customers because they are shooters too.

Yes, it would be nice to have them sign up as a sponsor, and I am sure that when the finances are there that the crew at Knoxx will be on board "the board".

Honest Confession - I am not (yet) a paying member eihter!  (Due to a super N-A-S-T-Y divorce which means I can't spend a penny unless the court approves it in a narrow range of categories - unfortunately AR15.com is not one of them at the moment!

I and most others reading the post think that CaCrusin was just trying to do Maverick Man a favor!

Crew,

Mike103 is worthy of M-U-C-H respect from everyone on this section for his tireless and usually Thank Less Work in Moderating the Shotgun Forum.

THANKS again for ALL the work you do.

I was asked to step up and serve here, but could not due to time and family factors.

THANKS again Mike!
