So I'm getting ready to send off my form 1 for a noveske lower. If I put 5.56 under the caliber, would it be bad to use a 300 blackout upper on that lower? Someone told me to put 300 blk on the caliber and than I can use any caliber smaller than the 300 blk without any issues. Thanks

You can use any caliber on any registered SBR at any time.. There's no truth to the version you were told.

To add to Homeinvader's explanation;
Put the caliber in which you INITIALLY will build your SBR.
The ATF wants to know what you are making.
After it is made you can change calibers at will.

Yes.  But only because 300 blk is dumb and expensive to shoot.

Thats two calibers.

Just put 5.56. No reason to list both, it will only lead to confusion
