My dealer has been waiting on shipment of my (first) suppressor (or so he says) for about 7 weeks now. He says it's because the Form 3 wait times are 4-6 weeks.
Is this realistic? If Form 3s go through quick then the only thing I can think are: a) the mfgr is REALLY slow, or b) one of his buddies jumped me in line. |

My one experience with a form 3 so far, I ordered a suppressor through my dealer that he didn't have in stock. The manufacturer submitted the form 3 on 12/16/11 and it was approved 12/22/11. The suppressor was at my dealer on 1/05/12. The form 4 on it went pending 1/24/12, and now I wait.

I paid for a suppressor on a F3 in June of 2011. Didn't get to submit the F4 until October of 2011. I am now 4 months pending - should "only" be another month or two - maybe (Jason Frushour). NFA is a S...L...O...W... process ( I believe on purpose). My quickest transfer was a F1 in 2010 that went 53 days mailbox to mailbox (William Shipman).

I just had a dealer in Orange, Va. submit a form 3 for a transfer to my SOT/Dealer in the Hampton Roads area. I'll keep you posted on how long it takes. I was thinking it would take about a month. I saw the form dated 2/17, but you don't know weather they sent it on the same day or not. I've found that getting 3,7, or 10K from you for an NFA item may be important to the seller, getting the paperwork done in a timely manner does not seem to have as high a priority. |

Nor, sometimes, does shipping your gun get a high priority on the "to do list" of some sellers. I waited almost two months for an individual to ship once. We just got a F3 back in 4 weeks, FWIW. |

I have had a form 3 pending since Jan 20, today is exactly week 5 from that date and nothing yet. Tic Toc Tic Toc Update: Got a call from the SOT dealer who submitted the form 3. It was approved Feb 17. 28 days exactly from time it went pending to approval. He's waiting on it to show in the mail now. |

Yep 3-5 weeks is about right. Sometimes is it quicker, luck of the draw. People sometimes don't submit the forms 3's promptly and just blame the ATF. Just had a funny situation with a dealer myself. I bought a MG from him over 2 weeks ago and sent out payment the next day. I never recieved a word back from him and the gun was still listed for sale on his web site so I gave him a friendly call..... His wife picks up, she handles the NFA stuff for him and informs me that my money orders have NOT arrived. I grabed my file and double checked the certified mail reciept, they did recieve it. SOOOO I call back, get the wife again who has alittle talk with her husband. He opened the letter and put the money orders up with out cashing them, telling his wife, or notifying me. I've been waiting 2 weeks because he forgot that I paid. If I never would have called who knows how that would have turned out, those money orders might have set for months and the gun sold to somebody else with out me even knowing. Dont think I'm going to deal with him again, last MG I bought came in with rust spots. Did not bitch at the time because I'm going to beat it but it would have been nice to know at the time. |

I'm right at 8 9 weeks as of today (start date being when I ordered and paid for the suppressor, on 12/26/11). Thinking about actually paying a visit to talk things over with them so I can get info on date F3 submitted, status, etc.
I mean, they can call ATF and find out the status, right? I don't want to come off as an ass with these guys but this is my first time through the wringer and I don't want to get shat upon. |

i've ordered a good many things that the manufacturer didn't have *in stock* at the time of order. so although the order is placed the F3 takes forever to come back because of inventory levels. there are several manufacturers that can't seem to keep up these days and it's streatching the times even further.
i recently called one of the manufacturers to inquire about some cans. i was told that the cans in question would be going into production the following week, 45 days after we ordered them and that the F3's have yet to be submitted. 7 days later i had the cans in the shop.... the guy i talked to obviously had no idea and just made things worse. your dealer doesn't really have anything to do with the F3. he places the order and waits on the can just like you. |

Assuming the MG is transferrable, it's insane for a dealer to demand a MO and not get set up to take CC's when handling that much money. Unlike a few years ago, more and more transaction processors are accepting gun businesses, and the rates are getting more competitive. I'm also amazed at how many people are willing to drop the coin on a transferrable MG or high-dollar custom build, and walk out with no receipt showing they made the payment. Some folks are just way too trusting. |
