Was at a pawn shop a few minuets ago and saw a garand on the rack. I asked to see it. I looked it over real good. The price was $550. Then I noticed that on the back of the receiver that there were no markings. Usuall I see manufacturer name and serial number, but this had none.I dont know if I should trust this gun or not. Imean, $550 for a garand is a good price, but with no markings I'm a bit leary. Any thoughts?

For that price, you can get a real WWII production receiver gun from CMP.

Very probably a Centry Garand...Made form a parts kit and a cast receiver,assembled by century's gun monkeys. I would avoid it like the plague.. These receivers have been known to be out of spec, and poor overall quality. For the same money, you can get a REAL M1 from the CMP( the CMP gets their M1's from the U.S. Army) delivered to your door. Unless you can get the Century Garand for $250 or less I'd pass, $250 is a fair price for the parts, the receiver you could throw in the trash.

Actually, that's a damn good reason.

Personally, I too would pass, years ago, I bought a beater/shooter Garand for $250, handguards rattle and everything else, for $250, you can't go wrong. But for $500, I would go with the DCM/CMP Garand, much better deal, even if you have qualify well worth the trouble.

You will do much better purchasing from the CMP. Stay away from that $500.00 special.

Bonehead Fred;
I'm not bitch slapping century...I'm just being brutally honest..And as we all know, sometimes the truth hurts, this is a classic example.
