I called up the ATF inquiring about my C&R license. The # for the Licensing Dept puts you directly to the Licensing dept, and I didn't have to speak to the rep for my state. Currently it appears that once they cash your check, it takes 2 weeks before it is entered into the system. According to the ATF, it would then take 60-90 days to complete the process. And apparently, there is currently a backlog of applications (is it a surprise at all?) I wonder how people manage to get it within 3 weeks. So it looks like an estimate of about 15 weeks is about the max amount of time before you can get the license from the day you mail in the app. |
I guess they've changed drastically within the past two years. I mailed my application w/ postal money order two years ago, and had my C&R FFL in my mailbox in 13 days. The packet of information arrived even sooner.![]() Is this related to the ATF offices moving around and reorganizing, or is it the new standard? |

It took 2 days from when I clicked "SUBMIT" to order my packet online to when it got in my mailbox. Then it took less than 5 business days for them to cash the check, but the ATF rep said they DID get my stuff however it has not been submitted for processing. They said it would take a week before it starts processing, which means 2 weeks from the day you put it in the mail box. I do not know how people are getting their licenses within 3 weeks. |
You lucky dog. You sent your's about the same time I sent mine. Maybe I'll start checking the mail 2x a day |
I hate you. ![]() metroplex how many times have you called them? I'm at 9 weeks now and nothing. They'll be all out of C&R guns by the time I get my license ![]() It must be becasuse I live in NY. They hate NYer's |
Ho Hum 9 weeks
So I guess I have to hate you also. Just promise me y'all will leave a few of the C&R rifles for me |
Ok I'm gonna rant here also I posted this on another thread. Sorry for taking up space. I just gotta rant. Its good therapy ![]() So I decided since its been 11 weeks since I sent my application in I gonna call again. I have to say the people at the ATF are very nice & polite. Of course thats about the only good thing I can say. The first woman I spoke to told me my app was still pending, I said gee I sent it in July13 and the last ime I called at the 8 week mark it was pending then. So she forward my call to an examiner. This woman was very nice also, she tells me that I passed the background check and now it needs to be sent to Brooklyn NY to make sure everything is OK with the county & municipality I live in It must be a New York thing. She says she will fax it over but it still could be up to 30 more days . This is frustrating. And I wonder why is it that so many others get it a couple of weeks maybe a month. If a private sector business was run like these govt entities they would go out go business. If I was an illegal alien trying to get a drivers license I would have it in a couple of hours. Such I should have started this process years ago. Oh well I go crawl back under my rock.... |
In a previous thread you cried about how a C&R license is useless, why has that changed? |
Please check the timestamp on the posts. |
