Got my First Big Bore Rifle. It is an Interarms Mark X in 458 Winchester Magnum. I managed 12 factory 510gr SP's @ 2040fps before I had too much fun.

| One fine looking rifle. I have an Interarms Mark X with the Mannlicher stock & double set triggers in 270W. The barrel has 8 grove rifling in it & 200yds, it`s a tack driver. A lot of people that don`t know any better, talk these Interarms rifles down, But I think they are the best. |

I've got a 45-70 I recently played with and my handloads are bone crushing... I can only imagine the .458. Will you be handloading for it? My current living arrangement precludes handloading. Wisconsin Cartridge Corp offers 405gr FPSP's loaded to 2200fps at a pretty reasonable price. I've got some on the way. Hunting Shack Munitions loads a Speer 350gr FPSP @ 2500 that I might try later on too. As for the recoil, my Mark X is only 8.5lbs. It gets your attention in a hurry. |

Gonna add a pachmayr decelerator and most likely a Breako 8oz mercury tube. Should tone it down to a mild shove. |
| I have a similar rifle, a Remington 798 (also made by Zastava) in .375 H&H Mag. I haven't shot it for groups yet but I was pleasantly surprised that recoil wasn't too bad. I could probably shoot a box or so through it in one sitting, if I could afford it. Fortunately I found enough brass at the range to begin loading for it so I can actually put some rounds downrange (thank you to the non-reloading guy who left about 50 pieces of 375 H&H brass in the brass bucket). |

Budget 375 H&H More Budget 375 H&H Even more budget 375 H&H While not cheap compared to 7.62x39 or 5.56NATO the above are budget friendly. Relatively speaking.

Here's my Ruger #1 Tropical in 458 WinMag with a Leupold 1-4x20 on it along with my Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in 375 Ruger with a Leupold 3-9x40 on it .......... should be enough for anything that I come accross ......

I use a .375H&H for deer, using 300 gr round nose loads @ 2500fps. The big bores are surprisingly good for deer, their relatively low velocity and tough bullets means they don't destroy much meat even if they hit bone; they just knock a 1" hole from one end to the other. Presumably the .458 does the same thing only more so... |

Round 2
Well I finally made it back out to the range. Unfortunately the range we shot at only had benches and no standing. I fired 14rds of the WCC 405's (2200fps) from the bench before I had enough fun. Oddly the 405's were perfect in regards to POA/POI for the "fine bead" hold I use. No issues with feeding, extraction or ejection and the floorplate stayed close just like it should. Time to go to the gunsmith for that Pachmayr Decelerator. My shooting partner was sighting in his Sako 300WSM and I lended a shoulder after he complained about the recoil and I saw him using a shot bag to soften the blow. After the 458 the 300WSM just tickles. He did take a shot with the 458 to his credit. His eyes welled up but he held in those tears. A good day. A side note: I keep eyeballing that Ruger 416 Alaskan. |

Nice rifle!
I picked up a Winchester M70 Classic Stainless in .375 H&H last week. It was a toss up between that or a CZ550 in .416 Rigby for $100 more (both were a fantastic price) I had to pace about for an hour before I decided on the Winchester I might go back for the CZ in another few weeks

If your rifle has that problem, just get a magnum extractor and replace the old one. Union quality.  Otherwise they are great rifles.

It is a big rifle and certainly feels so in the hands. The M70 is a much more svelt rifle with a merely a full sized action and normal capacity magazine. BTW - Nobody makes affordable .416 Rigby ammo or brass. Would love to see some pics of your 375. |

It's the perfect companion to my Dan Wesson .445 SuperMag AGS prototype The ammo thing was the deciding factor. I was actually looking for the CZ in 375, but the store I was in didn't have one, just the 416. The price was/is very tempting, but I just really wouldn't use it all that much compared to the 375 Thanks for the heads up on the ammo, that's going to come in handy until I get back home in another 2 months to all my reloading equipment. |
