I just came into an amazing shape Franchi 48 for 200 bucks at the local shop. All I have are 870s so this is my first semi-auto.  It looks like it has a 20" or 21" barrel with bead sight. What can y'all tell me about these weapons?  I looked on brownells already for parts and can't find anything franchi... any mag extensions? bigger safety? thats all I want to do to this gun.

Thanks

I'll bet the barrel is closer to 24 inches.  Franchi used the old Browning A5 lock recoil action.  Finding a mag tube will be a challenge.  These were bird guns (and nice ones at that) and never went to the hd market.

Franchi is still in business and still makes the 48.

Yep the 12s are no longer made. Great guns tho, I have three, two 12ga & a 20ga.
I don't know of any mag extensions, but it would be a horrible SD weapon anyway. It has a magazine cut off and won't chamber a round unless fired.
Make sure you know how to set the governing ring for the type of shells you're firing.

Although they are really a hunting shotgun, I have used mine for sporting clays. You got a good deal there OP.

ETA-Franchi did make a Riot 612, but it's a totally different gun.

The 48 is a bird gun.

Yeah, well it was kind of impulse buy and Im probably gonna do a quick turnaround on it. I read a lot more about the aluminum receiver and steel barrel not cooperating very well after awhile

They last for years. They're great guns, just not meant for self defense. I wouldn't put too much stock into the alum rec./steel bbl thing.

My oldest is from 1963, another from 1974.

You need to keep the stock tighened. They will  crack. Seen it on 12 and 20 that where shot to any great degree.

A close friend has one each in 12, 20 and 28.

Great hunting guns. He shot them for many years without any trouble.

Once he started shooting skeet with them the 12 beat it self to death including cracking the stock at the pistol grip.

Not for high volume shooting.
