I'm considering an M1A in the "Scout" configuration.  I hear that Springfield Armory versions can have their reliability issues, and may not be up to the task of home defense.  Is the Fulton version more reliable? They use GI parts as listed on their site. I'm looking for the best reliability in an M1A, and I'm VERY new to the subject matter.  I plan on using it for range work and a possible replacement for my AR15's that my f--king state of NJ may try and ban.

Thanks.

suggest you get an M1 garand or two from the CMP. The clips are cheaper then mags plus the riflle is cheaper. They make a rear handguard scout mount for them for 130 bucks. Havent tried it yet but I probably will when I get another M1 to play with. Since your limited to 15 rounds max why pay 20-40 per mag when its around 1 buck per clip. CMP rifles can be modified to shoot .308 by having them rebarreled, not a do it yourself project but it runs around 300 or so dollars on top of 575-625 for the rifle.

Thats also an idea.  I'm looking into all different alternatives such as .30 M1 carbine with the right load (Corbon has a hot expanding round for it now). I'm looking for something cool and fun to shoot/own in the league of my AR's .  Hoping for the best, planning for the worst.  In the meantime I'm writing my letters to Trenton.

Thanks for the idea.

I've dealt with Fulton many times over the past 7 or 8 years.  I have a few disagreements with them concerning their AR parts vendor but even then they handled the issues as bes they could.  When it come to the M14 and M1A I pretty much ONLY deal with Fulton Armory.  Clint and the Gang are GREAT people to deal with.  If I had some extra scratch laying around and I was looking for a Scout...I'd buy the Fulton....butI'd have them build it for me on an LRB reciever.  THAT BEING SAID, OUT OF THE BOX, THAT WCOUT WILL RUN LIKE A WELL LIT MONKEY.
