Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before. I'm using my phone and didn't come up with much.

Are the Sarco G3 kits with barrels gtg?
Which country mfg the kits (and does it matter as much as AKs)?
Who made the barrels and do they feature the proper flutes, other details? It says they had them made by the G3 Ghuru, whatever the hell that means.

Any better options? I am friends with a guy who has built 3 G3/Cetme types and thought it would be a somewhat affordable way to get into a quality HK type.

If you are open to both the G3/CETME, I would go used.  In my AO you can get a used CETME for $450-$600 depending on accessories etc.
There is a litany of things to check though prior to purchase (highly adviseable on Century builds).

There is a lot of info on Militaryfirearm.com.

I traded an AK for a Century G3 with some problems, but have since fixed and am happy with it.

I guess it all depends on your budget / what you want to do with it / etc. etc.

Personally I prefer the kit route but it is more cost effective to buy a finished "kit" (century) and rework it. I have only read about one individual getting one of the sarco barrels for a build but he's not far enough along to judge the flutes. That's a scary place to be in a build.

Thanks for the wisdom guys. I know Century made Cetmes and also a "C91". Are any of the C91s worth a crap? For example, what are the receivers like on the later guns? Did any allow for the telescopic stock? Barrels junk I'm guessing? The kit says it has the navy trigger pack, is that a big plus?
A kit is more appealing, but my buddy could help me get one reworked if needed. That's an avenue I overlooked.

Thanks.

I don't see the G3 parts kits on e-sarco.com; however seriously, why bother? You'll likely build it on a PTR receiver. PTR has several PTR-91 models under $1000 with both medium and GI profile barrels; all brand new parts, good quality, and a warranty. CAI is a gamble. Consider them a project (best case) or parts kit (worse case).

This.

I bought a new GI model, initially I had some issues with it, but PTR stood behind their product 100% and made things right.

Hmm. Ya, you guys are probably right. It seems parts kits are rarely worth the effort anymore unless you really wanted a custom build.
I build AKs, but even that's barely any savings. Just piece of mind that it isn't a Century.

On the PTRs, is the furniture all interchangeable? I just can't make myself like that aluminum hand guard.

Yes it is just got to make sure you are slapping the right kind  of fore end on. On my ptr91 gi I've had a telescoping stock, the tropical green stock and handguard that came with it, a od green surplus stock  and handguard on it, and a pakistani wide hanguard on it with a magpul buttstock.  On my new ptr91sc I got this week I promptly pulled off the aluminium handguard and slapped a turkish hk33 slim handguard on it and a a3 telescoping stock no problem. For the handguard size make sure its g3 length for a full size and carbines make sure its a hk33 length.

PtR91sc

the gi with wide handguard and magpul stock since then ive gone back down to slim hanguard and regular buttstock I like it better.
