| Anyone ever heard of the company GBSights? What do you think? |
| Well Victor to be honest with you, I just bought an AR. I originally wanted to buy to just buy an Eotech, but recently I have been facinated with NV optics for weapons. I came across a guy locally who is selling a NVRS Gen 1 Made in Russia. Titanium NIGHT VISION SCOPEModel: 2.5x42SN: 006306062. He only wants $400, but that money could go towards something else if its junk. Any input? |

www.gbsights.co.uk the guys websight, the digital NV is basicly a sony camera night shot ie grey picture instead of green, I believe but could be totaly wrong, iv not had a play with the unit but i know it has a batery pack external to the device. Its not green so it doesnt count Green is keen black is slack (or in this case black and white.) (the above term was used in reference to tape on your webbing green tape is harder to get hold of then black duct tape.) info from the websight on the digital units GBsights-Elite is a digital night vision device that can be operated as a hand held night vision monocular as well as a telescopic sight attachment. It has a integrated locking mount that allows fast and secure mounting of the unit to the back of your telescopic sight. GBsights-Elite night vision attachment adds less to the length of your telescopic sight in comparison with other conventional night vision attachments. This give the user a more comfortable head position. The attachment gives 50 mm eye relief. It is recoil resistant and is supplied with a rubber eyepiece. In comparison with traditional image intensifying devices our digital night vision attachment can be used in any lighting conditions without fear of light overload. Digital signal processing allows for full control over important parameters such as: - brightness, contrast of the electronic viewfinder; - digital zoom; - negative / positive image; - sensitivity level; Observed image can be recorded or transmitted via video out connector. The unit is powered by "on board" battery, also available is a optional external power pack. Despite its compact size the unit boosts up to X2.8 times magnification, achieved by X1.4 optical magnification and X2 digital zoom. It also allows you to use any telescopic sight at the lowest possible zoom setting for the highest possible light gathering and high magnification at the same time. The attachment is supplied with a set of inserts which allow you to attach any diameters of scope, from 39 to 45mm. It also has a detachable Infra-red Illuminator. GBsights-Elite night vision attachments also operate as a fully functional hand held monocular. Optional optical doubler is available to boost optical magnification |
Well, looking at their sortiment of conventional NV gear, they only offer two types of monoculars - a Belrussian Gen1 Dipol D125 relabeled as MERLIN and the well known D300, which is again Belrussian product but with Gen2 tube. They also offer goggles named TORNADO, they are Russian type Dedal DVS-8, nothing against it as it's hands down the best Russian goggle one can find.. but commercial Gen2+ tubes with 45 lp/mm are nothing to smash you down with, they could at least try to offer Russian Gen3 intensifiers. The last thing is CENTAUR 165 scope, it is the well-known Russian Dedal D480, the same type as you know it in the US under the name D740/D760, but with Russian tubes. I was quite surprised to find out they seem to resell the NOTG-7 which is basically a 160x120 FPA microbolometer installed in PVS-7 housing. The last uinteresting thing they offer is GBSights-T, a thermal monocular roughly comparable to MTM or TAM-14 types. I will not elaborate on their digital NV inventory as I find these items laughable - I'e tried Xenonics SuperVision once and got enough of the crap at least for the upcoming decade. LL |
Is this the low resolution 160x120 thermal? I've been working with the TAM-14 (320x240 res) as of late, and I'm very impressed with it's capabilities. |
That is an understatement! I punished myself with the StupidVision for 5 weeks trying to find ANYTHING that it would do well. I did find one thing....it is a most excellent active IR detector. |
I was mostly referring to overall layout rather than sensor performance. But I guess it will be a low res American sensor as European ones seem to have different size (typically 384x288 for high-res, for example). So far, the most impressive thing I have ever held in my hands was OTS-50 produced by (you will be laughing) a Bulgarian company OPTIX. It was lightweight and very rugged, 320x240 FPA sensor, one piece of a cool thermal weapon sight.. I can imagine that you folks in the States do not get much to hear about such exotic types. www.optixco.com/eng/spec/sight.htm www.optixco.org//pdf/ots.pdf |
I would not be too sure about that! |
