Greetings,

A friend (and fellow GSG enthusiast) and I are contemplating a new small venture and need some feedback.  We believe that some of you might like the option of purchasing a finished barrel to use in conjunction with the Gemtech adapter (ALL NFA RULES APPLY).  We're thinking about a total price of $180.00 delivered CONUS.  We should have photographs available by early next week.  Please let me know if you're interested and we'll decide if the demand is sufficient to produce them.

Thanks for your time!

It'll take ma forever to shoot out the barrel I already have.

Na, he is only looking for feedback at this time to see if it would be worth the effort to produce them.

So, I'll start with a question.  Are they going to be CNCd or what?

You'd have a lot of interest, but the price point is a little bit too high. Need more specs on the barrel. You find a way to make the barrel a little thicker and you would be on to something.

I'm not the machinist in the operation.  I know that they will not be CNCed, but rather turned on a Grizzly gunsmiths lathe.  We've already purchased some blanks from Brownells, as well as the chamber reamer (big bucks that have to be recooped).  My partner has indicated that the barrels will be thicker then stock, although it won't be visible.  Until we turn one this weekend, I don't have any further information.

Any suggestions on price bearing the preceding in mind?

Bear in mind that the barrels would be 8 1/4" long.  Stainless with 1:16 twist.

You might get a better response by machining both the short and a 16 inch barrel, I know many are interested in that.

Why would one want another 16" barrel?

Because I've read countless posts about GSG-5 owners that have talked about a better barrel, IE: match grade, thicker, even just a replacement barrel for future instances.

We have discussed the idea of increasing the diameter of the barrels.  Testing has shown that there is not enough clearance inside of the weapon to increase the diameter of the barrel behind the front sight base and it would be impossible to reassemble the rifle with a bull barrel ahead of the sight.  We can produce a 416 stainless factory replacement barrel with a field grade chamber, though.

If it is a quality barrel I would get one.  It would be nice not to have to chop the stock barrel down so I can keep it for later.

I might be interested in the short one. But you better hurry. ATF Form sent off last Monday. When it gets back, I won't wait long.

Why could you not manufacture a "stock" outside spec barrel that incorporates "match" grade inner specs?  I would be interested in something like this as I don't care to give anymore of my hard earned money to the feds for short barrels etc.   Rick
