I got my test loads put together today. After goofing with the Uniflow measure and spilling what seemed like a ton of powder - it was probably only 10-15 grains that actually spilled, but it was like spilling a liquid...it always looks like a huge amount when it's all over the place.
Hodgdon's H4895 isn't a challenge to meter. I had an occasional grain cut interrupt the measure's lever swing, but it wasn't a problem. Consistency was good too; I dropped +/- 0.1 grains without even needing any special techniques. 50 rounds with an average of 48 grains each does use up a goodly amount of powder though. Anyway, with chamfered case mouths, the flat based Hornady #3031 bullets seated smoothly and it didn't take much effort, either. I felt that I didn't need a crimp either, because the neck tension was definitely solid. |

Powder Valley is my go-to for most powders. I recently bought 8 pounds of IMR 4895 from them for a really attractive price. I bought 500 M2 ball bullets from Graffs. They stock PRVI’s bullets, which are as close to genuine M2 as you can get. Also nice price. Hornady’s 3031 150gr soft point is pretty close to the M2 bullet in shape, and when I can find it in bulk I will buy a bunch of it. |
