This past weekend I was out with my new (to me) Garand...CMP field grade, SA Greek return, yadda yadda. I had a problem every so often with the clip latch: the rear of it would work its way out of the spot in the receiver and so after I fired a round, the whole clip would partially eject and try to lock the bolt back. I did notice that the pin that the clip latch is on kept working its way forward, out of the rear receiver hole for it... It was simple enough to fix (remove trigger group, basic three-part field strip, hold the latch in place and push the pin back into place) but annoying after the third time. So, I ask the experts here, any ideas what might be causing this? Any solutions for it? (I'm hoping to not need a new part for it if at all possible...broke college student here) Thanks |

The latch pin may be worn and simply too little for the receiver holes. I'd replace the pin. The stock should have wood in front to the latch pin to prevent it from moving far enough forward to come loose. Use some 5 minute epoxy and some scrap walnut to build up the inside of the stock in front of the pin. You just need a wood block big enough to prevent the pin from coming forward. |
