Gas Buster
Are the really worth the cash? Shooting 10" barrel, and was told how great they work. What says the hive?? |

I just picked up my AAC M4-2000 supressor to use on my 12.5" SBR.
The gas block back was pretty obnoxious and makes you're eyes water. Before plunking down $90 for gas buster charging handle I thought I'd give the "ghetto gas buster" a try. I followed the instructions here and created a charging handle gasket out of RTV silicone. I made the gasket and then hit the road for a biz trip - hope to try it out this weekend. If it works, I saved myself a bunch of money. If it doesn't I have to clean my rifle and spend $90 on a gas buster. |

We do not even sell the PRI anymore. Rich |

The best possible combo is using the Gasbuster in conjunction with the RTV mod.
Gasbuster made it better than a standard charging handle, but I still got gas in my face after about 5rds rapid fire. RTV mod makes it like there is no gas at all. I think with the way they gasbuster is made, the RTV will hold up a lot longer. Taller handle with deep rounded cut that is also wider than a standard charging handle. I went with the cheapest black RTV. It's the non high heat stuff. So far it's holding up great. About 500-800rds suppressed with it so far. I just RTVed another Gasbuster last night. |

I'm running a Halo on a 11.5 inch barrel.
I have RTVed the gun. I see comments from those that have added RTV to a GB handle set up. Has anyone added a GB to an already RTVed gun? Was the improvement worth 90 bucks. I have the 90 bucks, I just don't like to spend money on something if I could use that money for Magpul mags. Just Askin! ETA: If you have 5.56 in cans you don't have enough mags! |
| Now my set up is an 18" with a .30 cal can, so my experinece may be different, but I RT'ed a standard charging handle and it worked great!! I'd thought about drilling the CH like above, but wanted to try it with just teh RTV first. Fired about 200 rounds last weekend and I'm pretty sure I"m going to leave it as-is. I did notice I was getting some water mist in my face, but it was barely noticable. It was humid/raining while we were shooting, so I figured I was just getting some condensation in the hot can from the damp air, and then it was blowing back at me. I would definately reccomend teh RTV trick to anyone looking at spending the money on a GasBuster. I'm planning on doing it to any future AR's, suppressed or not. |

Is the gas blow back worse on a short barrel? Yes, I think each gun/ammo combo is different but the 10" barrels gas me ALOT! My 10.5 has blowback but I have found the worse combo is the a 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system. Lots of dwell time. This site weapon outfitters sells something to combat gas in the face. |

I ran GB handles before I ever got suppressors. They are forged and not pot metal like a standard CH. I have torqued a standard handle to the point where it bent and jammed the weapon. Done it several times in fact. The GB isn't the total answer to reducing gas blow back in a shorter barrel, hard use weapon but it does help a lot. The only AR I own without a GB is a 22lr conversion. As they say, YMMV. Figure out what works best for you. Mark |

I used to run PRI gas buster charging handles on all three of my rifles... but i found that the RTV trick works with those chagring handles too! I get some blow back come out the bottom and stain my cheek with larger strings of fire though. I RTV'd my BCM gunfighter charging handle, and run it in conjunction with a "AR Gas Vent". It's cheaper than a PRI gasbuster, and much more effective. I prefer the BCM's feel too.
