I have about 750rds downrange through my new E4, so I guess it's about time to clean the gas system. I pushed the little doodad over, but the thing won't turn. Anyone have any tips for getting the gas plug to rotate? I didn't want to break out the pliers without asking first...

Also, it has been on "heavy" the whole time. That's the way it came so I didn't mess with it. Is it a problem using the heavy gas setting regularly? I know some adjustable gas guns specify only to use the bonus setting in emergencies, but I would think it would say something about that in the manual if it was an issue with the MSAR.

Sometimes the chamber the piston sits in gets gunked up.  This makes it hard to turn.  Clean it out, it should be fine then.

You actually want it in heavy for the first thousand rounds or so to break it in, or so I'm told. I don't think you're going to damage your gun having it there.

You should try moving it into normal after you clean it and I'll bet it stays cleaner and will be reliable.

Cool, good to hear re: the heavy setting.

I sprayed some breakfree powderblast in there last night and again earlier today. A lot of crud flowed out, but the bugger still won't rotate. Should I try some kroil or something?

Did you check out the photo/video thread to make sure you're doing it right?

Yep. It looks so simple in the video, but mine won't budge. I push the little sliding piece over and try to rotate the plug, but no joy in either direction. I am hesitant to use mechanical force unless I get the ok from some of you smartguys, but fingers aren't cutting it at this point.

Kroil?
