Anyone use the Gatco diamond stone sharpening system?

Haven't used theirs, but it's just like any of the other goofy guide sharpening systems.

I've used the Gatco for many years.
I had an early Lansky but after the stones wore out I bought a Gatco to try.  I prefer the Gatco's wider stones and the guide rod system.

The Gatco stones also wear, which is normal, so I recently bought Gatco diamond "stones" and these seem to work very well.
I also bought a solid aluminum clamp to replace the rather weak plastic guide that comes in the standard kits.
I'm a retired Master watchmaker/gunsmith so I KNOW how to sharpen edges on blades and gravers, I was trained in school how to do it.
However, the guided stones sharpeners are just better than doing it by hand because they take the human element out of it.
A guided stone sharpened edge is very uniform with none of the irregularity you see on hand sharpened edges.
I've had people tell me that they can maintain a perfect edge, but are shocked when I show them the edge under magnification.
While it's possible with training and practice to do a good job by hand, one slip and it's not so good.  These guided stone sets just make it easier to do a good job.

So, if you considering a Gatco, or have one, I recommend picking up the all aluminum clamp and the diamond stones.

I picked one up from Cabelas that night I posted this so was just wondering what everyone thought of them. I did get the Ultimate diamond stone kit that has the added extra fine stone and it did come with a metal clamp. Only thing that im finding I dont like about these systems so far is that they dont work well with small pocket blades. It wont clamp down on it real well which actually lead to the knife coming unclamped and me getting cut on the up stroke of the stone. Then the stones hit the clamp if the blades width is to short. Other then that, I am fairly happy with the system.
