Is the Oasis ported to keep high velocity ammo subsonic ?
7/29/2008 10:23:34 PM EDT
[#1]
Sir,

The OASIS-series rifles and pistol are integrated suppressors utilizing unported lightweight barrels.  The concept here was that many integrally suppressed firearms traditionally have very low velocities, -- perhaps unusable for anything other than very close-range paper punching.   In a military use, where high velocity ammunition is the only thing available, a ported barrel is of benefit to bleed off velocity and avoid the supersonic crack.  But for the civilian commercial, law enforcement, and wildlife agencies the OASIS was built with in mind for, subsonic ammo is only a Wal-Mart away, if utmost quiet is desired.  Highest velocity loadings may alternatively be used without robbing them of their ballistic performance.  Ultimately, if you want to shoot small game, steel targets, varmints, farther distances, etc., then you can utilize more powerful ammo in the OASIS without compromise.  Conversely, if you want to shoot backyard-quiet, pop for that extra .20 cents a box, use standard, match, or subsonic ammo and enjoy the flexibility of your being able to tailor the OASIS system to whatever your priority is.  We give the end-user the ability to choose what's best for them.

The unported barrel also stays cleaner, as badly done ports can shave lead very quickly.

Kel

I don't like ported integral designs for the reasons Kel mentioned.  I'd rather let my ammo selection determine the resulting sound level.

The Oasis-R is a nice product.

Of course it would be nice if you could take them apart for cleaning.

Uh... me.

I had an extra Trijicon RCO hanging around, popped it on, and ended up liking it for quick shooting on moving targets. I don't mind that it sits a little high, it's got a huge field of view, and really nice clear glass.  I like Trijicons, good kit.

The only thing that bugs me about my scopes is that I can't take them apart to clean them. All the nitrogen leaks out.

My friends gave me hell for using an Aimpoint on my 10/22.  LOL.

Kel, if the higher sight bothers you at all I'd suggest trying the Eagle Industries stock packs.  They are adjustable and you can easily use some material under the pack to raise height.  I use them on several rifles.  The pouch part is also a great place to store a few spare 10-round magazines.

On a serious note, theres a pistol version of the Oasis as well, correct?

Yes, there is a pistol version.  Oasis is pistol, Oasis-R is rifle.

***Correct, Sir.

The pistol actually came out first.  We made some for a client group that wanted the capabilities of a silenced .22lr -- a handy thing to have in the ol' golf bag, but often gets left behind because it might be decided it's not worth hoofing the extra weight around for long helo rides or mountainous / high terrain strolls.  We approached them with a "What if we can give you the capability you want, but at well under half the weight, and in a smaller package than most integrals?"

The client we built it for liked it -- there's a little blurb on one of these preproduction OASES (back when it was still had the working name of the PACKRAT, due to the focus of "little lightweight piece you can tuck away in a murse or pack), here., as evaluated at Blackwater.  We later we made it commercially available as the OASIS.  The suppressed rifle barrel soon followed.   Originally, other than to government clients, we only sold the barrel or upper itself, but we started offering it as a complete package on the Ruger Mk3 plastic lowers late last year, which really makes for a featherweight package - if you haven't played with one, they really are a unique feeling firearm.

ARFCOM INDUSTRY DISCLAIMER: I work in an office paid for by your silencer purchases. But I do buy my own lunch. Sometimes I bring it in, but really, with the new Quizno's promotion, it barely makes financial sense to brown bag it.  A $5 large sub? That's as good a deal as Gemtech's MULTIMOUNT 9mm modular suppressor.  Super value, Excellent and satisfying results. There's also Rib Shack, a really good, KC style bbq just down the road that I'm leaning towards as well. Support your local restaurants.

I have an Oasis on a MKIII lower, just like the one pictured above.  It looks like it ought to weigh 5 pounds but it really is super light.  Very slick looking.  Using mini mags it sounds, to my untrained ear, about like a loud pellet gun.  I have really enjoyed shooting it.
