I am looking for a direct thread 5.56 can that is reasonably light, not too long, reasonably priced and provides at least hearing safe, to excellent suppression.
My rifle: Its a 16" barrel with a 1x7 twist. Its scoped, and sits on a bipod. Its primary use is taking out Coyote and other critters that may appear around the house. This is not a rifle that I would take to a carbine class, or use for home defense/ door kicking. I guess it would best be described as a 5.56 designated marksman rifle if there is such a thing. Post up if the Trek will meet my needs, or suggest something else if you feel it will serve me better. BTW, I do not need or want QD capabilities. Whichever can I get will pretty much be permanently mounted to my rifle except for cleaning. |

I have the standard Trek and can't believe how light it is. A Trek Ti should be super light.
Even on a 16" gun it's just slightly longer than a 20" rifle. Since your use does not include mag dumps, I would spring for the Ti model but you won't be disappointed with the standard Trek. |
| You will not be disappointed! I wish had gone with the TI but still love my Trek because of the length of it. The Gemtech website suggests putting a little blue loctite on the threads and you will not have a problem with it coming loose. I used it, works great and I can take it off no problem if I need to. I put a black sharpie mark on the barrel and the back of the Trek. That way I can just peak at the barrel to see if it is still lined up then keep plugging away. It gets really hot after about 100 rounds but I NEVER shoot without it even if I have a 200 round day. |

Its already ordered and now Im waiting for the form 3 to clear. I got the steel version since Im not overly concerned with weight. Its going on a heavy barrel AR that rests on a bipod.
I plan on using a tiny dab of blue loctite on the shoulder of the barrel to help retain the can. I like your idea of using witness marks on both the can and barrel to have a visual reference for being fully tight. Now begins the long wait. |

I have Trek Ti, its perfect for my needs, i didnt need a QD type, i wanted short (its on a SBR) & light. The thread on will loosen up on you after a dozen or so shots, but im also running anti-seize on threads. its still a great lil can Try using teflon tape instead. |

Check out pictures of the brand new Gemteck Halo-T Drooolll. I prefer thread on because of weight and length savings. But the Halo Titanium being able to mount to any standard length A2 flash hider is pretty tempting. Oh and grand total weight of the can and mount is just over 14 ounces!!! More drool. :) Didn't get MSRP but I'd imagine it's around the same range as the trek-T so around 1k probably plus a little because of the mount. Great looking can. I had never considered a 22 can before but their new one was just cool enough to make it worth looking into. The HALO-GMT is very nice. I had the opportunity to fire it this past summer and was very impressed. |

Have they started cracking down on trusts yet? |
| Love my Trek. It was my first rifle can. It currently sits on a full-time suppressed upper since its a pain to move between rifles. While the weight, sound suppression and looks of the can are excellent, i am forever kicking myself for not sucking up and spending the little extra for a QD can for my 5.56 can. I'll be ordering a Phantom shortly as my go-to rifle can since it's QD. |

I love my Trek. It's a sweet little can. It stays on my 10.5" SBR. It is a bit heavy, but on a short barrel it's not that noticeable. I really like the compact size. It feel like it's built like a tank. I've shot it next to a couple of other cans and it is just as or slightly better sounding. It has a slightly deeper tone.
