So I walk into my local (40+ miles away) FFL/SOT/candy-coated-things-that-go-boom-or-make-other-things-not-go-boom-so-loudly-dealer yesterday with a fairly innocuous goal in mind - pick up a simple QD mount for one of my rifle suppressors.  Now, I know from the start that the kinds of people Gemtech uses as dealers are shady characters much akin to strip club proprietors and playground crack pushers.  I was all prepped for the high pressure sales pitch and jedi mind tricks.  He tried to play it soft at first - told me my total and said "thanks for coming in - good to see ya" (I think we all know what that means)...  Somehow I had ended up buying TWO of the items I originally needed, but i expected as much - shady characters, after all...

And then, as I sauntered towards the door (which employs a progressively strengthening anti-matter forcefield) he went for the kill.  Instead of ushering me out of the shop due to my obviously weakened state of mind, the bastard let me start asking questions...  I think he may have done that Crocodile Dundee water buffalo trick where he makes the "hang ten" hand motion in front of my eyes.  I mentioned that I'd been thinking about a 9mm can, something I could use on a G19 and maybe a new 9mm SBR i had apparently been considering.  (I don't recall ever considering either before walking in to the den of iniquity - Pretty sure they pipe a mind altering stimulant gas laced with hallucinogenics into their dealer dens via the HVAC systems.)

So at the precise moment I should have been speeding down the highway with less than $200 worth of gear, this pusher is showing me a Gemtech MM9 with LID mount and a threaded aftermarket barrel.  "See how light this is?" and "Other mounts will let you use it for pretty much any application" were thrown around with complete disregard for safe backstops or potential spousal discontent.

i clearly recall my mind firing up neurons and synapses - sending the signal for my lips to form the mantra "That's really nice - maybe next summer/fall/lottery".  What they said instead was "I'll take it".  I'll take it?  Seriously?  What kinda crap is that?  I should have been thinking of all the websites full of research to review and reviews to read, first.  I couldn't pull the trigger on an impulse buy of that magnitude based simply on the fact that I had met some Gemtech guy at a shoot and seen his replies on websites where he came across as knowledgeable/helpful/approachable/human.  That's an unfair business practice if ever there's been one!

So I've got this suppressor sitting in my dealer's safe, and a packet of trust paperwork and Fm 4's in an envelope ready to send off to the BATFE with my penance - $200 of hard-earned cash from ferrying the sick and injured around the region in an ambulance .  That'll teach me - handing over that kinda change will DEFINITELY keep me from making this mistake again.

But - NOOOOOO - Gemtech just won't quit....  Apparently they want to kick that last vestige of hope out from under my swinging legs...  "Send the envelope to us, instead".  Apparently the taking-advantage-of-suckers industry is thriving, and they'll toss their weight around a little more.

Was gonna do this in the "Pit" as a call out thread - but wanted to make sure other "suckers" who google "suppressors" or "Gemtech" might stumble upon it and see what they're up against before the gasses and hard-sell techniques kick in.

Long story, short - this is just one of those "Just bought a Gemtech MM9 and the clock is ticking on the forms!" Threads!   !!!

So begins the jealousy of man who has no candy-coated-things-that-make-other-things-not-go-boom-so-loudly but desperately wants one and has promised his wife that he will finish the home remodel before spending any money...... I need to go lay some tile

Congrats

You're totally right. I wasn't sure what it was that caused me to experience a similar malfunction until I read your post. I was all set to buy a YHM Mite. I'd done all the research, I called around town to find out all the places that had one in stock as well as a P-22 (I had to bring something home), and found out who had the best price. I was determined to buy one and discovered that Shooter's Vault on 32nd St. and Greenway had what I wanted in stock and had the best price. I stopped in after work, took a look at the Mite and as I was reaching for my wallet, my mind told my mouth to say "I'll take it." What came out instead was "What's that next to it?" Turns out it was an Outback II. Despite the fact that it was about a half ounce lighter, shorter and tested significantly quieter, I was compelled against my will to purchase it. Sure, it works well, has close to the best suppression level available at a size and weight that no other can comes close to, I wanted the YHM can, but Gemtech mind control waves caused me to buy their product. The effect hasn't worn off, either. Now I'm compelled to get a Multimount, despite being flat broke and owning nothing but a Kel-Tec in 9mm.

I hope no one tells you that Gemtech is running a special where they pay the tax on MM9s purchased from them...

That WOULD ruin your day...

Nice  purchase OP, you're gonna love suppressed 9mm.  I have a Trident that I swap from my G19 to my 9mm Ar, and it's great.  The MM9 is super nice as well, and I'm sure you'll be gladly spending huge sums of money on ammo for it.  .

OP: Want to buy adapters for the MM9? I've got 3+ of every type, including the Uzi (and thank God I have an Uzi).

Gemtech gear is like AR gear...you buy so much of it you lose track...5 Gemtech cans and waiting on two more form 4's for moar!

Now, which adapter fits in front of the rail of my LWRC M6A2 SBR for the G5?

If the standard mount brings it too close to latch, they make a mount for the 416 which provides some clearance.
