I've recently been hooked on shooting my 10mm, so I'd like to make it a little (or a lot) more affordable.

I've had experience reloading before and I'm familiar with the process.   I've helped load pistol ammo before but never had my own equipment.   I did have a single stage shotshell reloader that I used to do a couple hundred rounds a week when I used to shoot in a league.

I'm thinking of starting with a single stage press to get started and eventually moving up to a progressive if/when I determine I'll use it enough to justify the extra cost.    I know that a lot of what I'll need to buy now will be useful to have later anyway.

I'll start with 10mm but eventually I'd probably want to load some subsonic 9mm.    I'm not sure I'd care to reload .40S&W...  I have a lot of factory rounds on hand and I can get practice ammo for free (to an extent) from my employer.    I might also eventually want to load some rifle rounds.

Anyway, here is the list I have currently (let me know how the prices are compared to other websites).    Everything I'm listing came off of midwayusa.com

  • 646599   RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Single Stage Press Master Kit  $289.99

  • 373992   RCBS Carbide 3-Die Set 40 S&W, 10mm Auto   $40.99

  • 103614   RCBS Vibratory Case Tumbler 110 Volt   $67.99

  • 315831Hornady Cam-Lock Case Trimmer           $64.99

  • 604242   Frankford Arsenal Electronic Caliper 6" Stainless Steel    $21.99

  • 144563   RCBS Shellholder #27 (357 Sig, 40 S&W, 10mm Auto)   $6.89

  • 630146RCBS Pow'r Pull Impact Bullet Puller   $17.99

  • 531741   Shooting Chrony F1 Chronograph  $79.99

  • 310196   Frankford Arsenal Perfect Fit Reloading Tray #4S 357 Sig, 40 S&W, 10mm 50-Round Blue   $7.19

  • 532382   MTM Flip-Top Ammo Box 40 S&W, 10mm Auto, 45 ACP 100-Round Plastic Green  $3.43

I know that I can get the tumbler media at a pet store a lot cheaper than online.

Please let me know what you think so far.   The total for my wish list so far is $532 (I put a couple of the the shell holder and trays)  Thanks for your replies.

When I started reloading I kept an eye on craigslist for used setups.  Ended up buying two or three collections of reloading stuff then sold off the stuff I didn't need.  It ended up costing me about a quarter of what I would have paid new.  You should have an easy time being in Ohio and looking for a single stage to start.  I personally use a Lee case trimmer but just on rifle.  It works fantastic for one-tenth the cost of the Hornady.  The stretching on my pistol loads is so minimal it's not really worth it.

Your list looks fine to me.

There is also a tutorial/post at the top of the page with lists of what to buy when you are starting out.

Unless you're reloading rifle cartridges you can skip the trimmer. Pistol ammo never needs trimming.

If you'll be shooting in volume, skip the single stage and move up to at least a turret press.

I'd go insane if I had to load for a pistol league or 3-gun match on single stage.  YMMV.

  • I would start with a turret press, not much more expensive and a whole lot faster.

I have this shell holder still in the package. I will give it to you for a dollar if you want it. The dollar is for shipping. I bought a lee die set and it has a shellholder in it and I bought one before I found out.

    Good luck

I found a local used Dillon 650 for a pretty good deal, waiting for the guy to get back with me.
