FINALLY 6 weeks seemed like FOREVER....but received it tonight. During the wait I came across an EE deal for a dillon trimmer, so now i have both tastes of the koolaid.
I must say....The dillon is sweet in the fact you 'can' decap, size, trim, neck expand all in one go, then do your wet/dry tumble and move to loading. The only 'issue' for me is that I require an additional step of manually doing the case mouth prep with the deburring tool. I noticed as you seat the dillon trimmer rounds it's sorta 'shoving' the round into there, thus you will give up some consistency and accuracy (at least my rounds seemed to loosen up in my testing). Personally...i don't shoot to throw $ down range. I am down if i can't get tight groups and I stew on it trying to figure out do i need to increase 'my' skills or is it some variable in my loadup? I'm constantly looking to improve both aspects. Now the Giraud...WOW....i'm floored. I measured the test round that came with it, trim was way too deep for my tastes (1.735) so I immeadiately started with moving it up to 1.75 taking it longer first and slowing moving it in until i got the mark. I am impressed, it was quick and easier to set than the dillon was. I was set in under 5 minutes first time using. (i can do that NOW with the dillon, but first time...it's just not as easy to adjust cause somethings always in the way). So performance...sweet, i checked and all of my cases were within .0005 (yes you read it... .0005) that is merely based on my neck sizings having a majority of them dead on as well to 1.4540. The 20% or so case where my headspace was off by .001-.002 I noticed it simply ecpanding my OAL from 1.75 to the 1.751 or 1.752 mark. So it's very relative. Nce thing, no dealing with that darn deburring tool this way! Volume - easy....17 shells a minute with one hand, if i used both hands (grab shell with other hand while trimming with other, then switch when done and grab another shell with the hand that was just trimming) I could run 25 shells a minute on average. Put it this way...unpacking, setup and adjustment, initial measurements of my rounds headspace and oal to see what I was starting with, then some QA throughout the entire process. I was able to fully complete this for 800 rounds in right at 45 minutes. I'll probably use this from now on for my ammo and for my young sons loadups they want to shoot i'll run them fast and through the dillon. |
