I'm going to pick up a 17 to use with my Osprey. I can get a Gen 3 for about $80 less than the 4. From the standpoint of being a host, is one preferable over the other? All things being equal, I'd like to get the 3 and buy more ammo.

Don't forget the Gen4 comes with a 3rd mag so factor that into the cost difference.

Personally the Gen4 without any backstraps feels the best in my hand so I tend to gravitate to Gen4 Glocks.

Then again if you can still find a Gen3 TB, that may be the most cost effective solution.

Just get the one that feels best in your hand. They both run the same suppressed.

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if one feels better over the other and go from there.

Personally, I would prefer the 4 so I could add more backstrap.

Shot Glocks for years, then the light was shown to me and now I shoot Sigs.

Since barrels get crazy expensive with Sigs, I am going to get a 22/17 conversion for my Glock 22

Gen 4.  I just bought one myself.

But the better answer is HK.

I held both side by side and was immediately sold on the 4. Aside from the improved texture, the larger mag release is a must have.

Gen 4 for me also. Personal preference, but they feel better in the hand to me and I like the larger mag release.

Since this is in the suppressor section, Gen 4 MOS. Or Gen 4 milled for a red dot.

I like the GEN 3 "frying pan" finish although I just bought a GEN 3 that had the newer finish so it is not always cut and dry which slide finish you will get with each GEN.

I have two Gen 4 Glocks that I use as suppressor host for my SilencerCo Octane 45 HD at this time.

1) G34 with a SilencerCo barrel - It makes for a long setup with the Octane, but is very quiet with the 147 gr. I run in it.

2) G30 with a Storm Lake barrel - very quiet with 230 gr. ball.

Both function 100% - both feel better in my hand than the Gen 3 versions.

Have fun,
Bob S.
