I've got a niece and nephew who like to go shooting with me. My 1022 is still a little big for both of them and I've been thinking about picking up a Crickett for them to shoot. (Ok, I admit, it looks like it could be fun to play around with) I know that this is about as basic a gun as one can get. Has anyone had any experience with the Crickett? Is this a good little gun?

They'll outgrow the Cricket.

Find a spare 10/22 takeoff stock--there are a LOT of them floating around and the going rate seems to be about $20-25. Cut slices off the butt, 1/2" or 1" and save them all. As the kids grow, glue a slice back on to match them. When they've used up all the slices, they're ready for the full-size stock.

Then you can cut the slices back off and start all over again with THEIR kids.

ToeTag, I appreciate the offer but, I'm really not looking to rebuild me 1022. I kind of like my little squirrel sniper rifle as it is.

The Cricket is about the same price as the Rugers so buy them their own 10/22's and mod the stocks.  That's what I did for my kids and it worked out great (so have they!).

Edit - Oops. Not the same... I was looking at a laminated SS Crickett...
