Handy little micro oilers. >$20 with a pound of graphite from WM. You will need a tiny funnel. Most will be given out to family, but I’m saving one to stow with my AUG cleaning kit. It fits neatly in the lower triangle with the pull cord around it. One benefit is that it makes it hard to too much graphite on. I have ruined a couple white shirts ringing gray in that butt pad shape.

Mine are clearish so you can better see how much is in it.

Your post got me to graphite dust my trigger group. Never have lubed it .. 500 or so rounds through her.  It is messy. But I tried to rub it in with a brush on the hammer contact points and where the double bar trigger set up slides.  Thanks for the post.

Never lubricate an AUG trigger pack. Anything petroleum based is a no-go.

“Dry lube” (graphite)  is the way if you don’t like 9# of grinding plastic.  Personally, I think the trigger pull forces me to stay focused.

Nice idea OP.

I’ve read and been told an AUG trigger pack is a 50,000 round wear item (plastic components - springs will go earlier).

Not that anyone here will see that many rounds thru their rifle, but I wonder if graphite would extend the plastic component service life by reducing friction / surface wear.

The top end of estimates:

Receivers 100k
Trigger pack 50k
Bolt 30k
Barrel 20k (chrome lined - do not know how nitride will perform).

Assuming SA.

It is my understanding the BC will crack between 50-75k but the rifle will continue to function until the carrier has a catastrophic failure.

This doesnt seem accurate. I have sprayed out trigger packs with Gun Scrubber and lubed with silicone spray. Did not harm anything but maybe I got lucky.

Any mil-spec gun that cannot take a "cleaning" from diesel, WD40 or CLP is a no-go.

I HAVE removed/ruined the finish on a Bulgarian AK by using spray cleaners

yup, all of the Steyr manuals I've seen going back 30 years have said no lube on the trigger pack. graphite power is gtg though

Same.  Four decades of experience and research into these guns.

Petro based anything is a no-go on the AUG trigger pack.

Over time the chemicals may have a detrimental impact on the plastic used in the trigger pack / trigger pack components.  Luckily for you, the entire pack is readily available for $136.  You might want to pick one up - just in case.

Yes, thanks. I have a few extra. I assume that I have been lucky. Maybe the sprays that I have used were ok on the AUG plastic. It says its "plastic safe" so...

Luckily, the trigger pack usually stays VERY clean even after a lot of shooting so its not something that needs constant cleaning like the AR fire control group.

I guess in the future, I will avoid any type of lube or cleaning products in the trigger pack. I guess I'll use hot water to degrease/clean the trigger in the future. Hopefully its not too delicate for water...I do HATE working with graphite but I guess Ill have to try it.

the important bit that's mentioned in the video I posted, is after you work the graphite powder in, shake out the excess. not much mess that way. and the trigger pack hardly gets dirty to begin with

Steyr actually recommends cleaning the plastic components of their AUG with warm soapy (mild soap / no harsh chemical types) water - some what irconically - especially to remove petro based products from the surface.
