Hi I have about 800 rounds through my gsg. When I first took it out to shoot it everything worked perfect. As of recently my bolt is failing to stay open after the last round is fired. I cleaned it good but still the same problem. This last time I took it apart to clean because I was getting fte ftf and stove pipes. When I looked good the bolt would stay open only if i held on to the mag and shot. Has anyone else encountered anything like this?

When you pull the bolt back, on the other side of the ejection port, you should see a little spring behind some horizontal bars...if you dont see a spring in there, that is the problem...

Yeah I saw a post about that while searching. That was one of the first things that I looked at. The spring is still there.

A few things to check:

Pull the charging arm back as far as you can. Stick your finger in the magazine well and push up the bolt hold open lever. It should move up smoothly with the spring being the only resistance.
Does the bolt go all the way back smoothly when operated by hand?
Check the follower grips on your magazines for wear. This is what pushes up the lever.
Check the latch in the magazine well for excessive wear. The part that holds the magazine in.
Lastly, on my GSG, the area on the bolt that hits the hold open lever shows some wear. Check this on yours for any noticeable damage.

Good luck

Edited, the guy above me covered it.

I had the same thing go funky on my 10rnd mag. The follower grip nut and bolt came loose.

Ok I checked all of those things that you suggested all seems to be good. Except I noticed a slight gouge on the left side of the bolt. Could this be causing the problem? Like I said earlier the bolt will stay open only if I apply upward pressure on the magazine.

Couple more things:

With the bolt open, insert an empty magazine. How close is the top of the magazine to the ejector plate when the magazine is relaxed? I have about 1/32" gap, but they are not touching. The ejector plate might be  bent, stopping the mag from going all the way up.
What is the condition of the BHO lever corner that contacts the bolt? Mine is square with a small radius on the corner.
Insert an empty mag and pull the charging handle all the way back. Does the BHO lever appear in the slot at all? if so, how much (1/4, 1/2, etc)?
This is a long shot, but any chance you left out the pivot pin that goes between the barrel block and the case?

Any chance you can post a picture of the gouge, or can you be more specific about where it is?

With an empty mag I can see that the bolt catch is not going up all the way unless I push the mag up.
It seems that the mag has some wobble in pretty much all directions, but if I push up on the mag then manually
cycle the bolt it will stay open. Its not that big of a deal it's just that I hate the dry fire that I get everytime the
mag runs empty and I am not paying attention.
