Just got back from the gun show in Concord, NH. I've been looking for a slug barrel for my Browning Auto-5, watching them go on Gunbroker for about $300. I didn't see any slug barrels at the gun show, but I did find an Auto-5 with a slug barrel. It had one of those silly B-square aluminum scope-mount things that covers the receiver, so I couldn't tell whether it was a standard weight or a light weight. The dealer said he was sure it was a standard weight, but the barrel ring had lightening holes, so I was hopeful that he was wrong.
Bought it for $375, brought it home and disassembled it, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was indeed a "Light Twelve". The wood needs to be refinished, and now that the B-square abomination is gone I'll need to order four screws, but the metal is in great shape. It was born in 1962 and looks like it was hardly used. Even the butt plate looks great. So basically, I bought a slug barrel and had a Belgian-made Light Twelve thrown in for $75. I'm a happy guy. I'm also happy to report that ammo was abundant and fairly reasonable, with the exception of .22 rimfire. |
| That reminds me of the A-5 magnum I bought off this site here a few years back for $250. No one else would touch it because it was covered in surface rust from being left in a gun case. A little kroil and steel wool took it right off and it literally looked brand new afterward. Damn fine duck guns with that 3" chamber. |
