| I would like to build a bolt action in either 300 whisper or 300 blackout. What would be the cheapest way to do this? Can you use a bolt gun chambered in 308 for the host? Thanks for the help. |
| I am by no means an expert on this, but wouldn't the .300 blackout use the same extractor as the .223 making it the better starting point.? I was under the assumption that the .300blk was designed to allow switching between calibers on the Ar-15 without the need of changing the bolt face. |

Thanks, has anyone on the forum done this? Not to be stupid but why would you use a 223? Because .300 Blackout is .223 necked up to .300. Start with a bolt gun in .223 or .222 so you have the proper bolt face and just install a .300 Blackout or Whisper barrel. Savage because the barrel is held on with a tensioning nut, so you can change the barrel and headspace it yourself. |

Any thoughts on the Savage Axis? It's a cheap enough gun and get a barrel from BFG. I have been doing research and as usual there are conflicting views. Thanks This as well. I have a brother looking at the Axis, and any experiences would be great to hear. |
| Update, I just got a Email from a company that makes 300blk barrels and they said that the Axis threads are the same as the non-magnum savage bolt guns. So a barrel that fits a savage model 10 in 223 will also fit the Axis in 223. At first I didn't understand why the 223 but now I know it is the base cartridge for the 300blk. Thanks everyone for your help. |
