How does it work if I take a C&R firearms to a gunsmith for work?

Same as any other firearm made after 1898...not sure what you are specifically asking though



...ETA: but I am now thinking you have a C&R license and are asking about logging it in/out of your bound book while the gunsmith has the firearm? Yeah you gotta do that.

Yes, is it just I need to log it or does the gunsmith/dealer need to do anything?

You make the appropriate entries in your bound book.  The gunsmith does the same record keeping he does for any gun.  He logs it in and out of his bound book (unless the repairs are completed in the same business day, in which case logging is not required).  You can just worry about your record keeping, and let the smith worry about his.
