Anyone have 5.56*45 Service Rifle load data for H335
and 55gr fmj? How about chrono data for 25grs + CCI 41 or 450 + 55gr projo? That's my everyday load, hoping Santa brings me a chrono this Christmas. |

My goal is to get 55 fmj moving 3,000 fps out of carbine using H335. 25grs gets close by my guestimates, I really need a chrono. |

Chrony data for what length barrel?
Here is a Quickload calculation for the 55gr Hornady FMJ and 335 powder. Hodgdon list a max of 25.3gr at 3203fps out of a 24 inch barrel with a Speer soft point. Cartridge : 5.56 mm NATO - 5.56 x 45 mm According to QL, Max would be 27gr. Please understand this is only a computer generated GUESS and is Untested and should be viewed with extreme Caution. Cartridge : 5.56 mm NATO - 5.56 x 45 mm |

Steve, thanks for all the data! Rifle is AR carbine, 14.5" barrel.
Does QL take into consideration which primer is used? I've always used CCI #41 or 450 with H335, those will give higher pressures than the 400 and could push over safe levels if not really careful. |
|
No, it does not take primers into consideration.
14.5 ich barrel. Cartridge : 5.56 mm NATO - 5.56 x 45 mm |

Info for you: XM193 from 16" Wylde chamber - 3135 FPS XM193 from 20" Wylde chamber - 3170 FPS Thanks Smokey. That's interesting velocity data, everything I've read said a 16" barrel should be 150-200 fps slower than a 20" barrel. I got to move chronograph to top of list of tools to buy. |

The more I think about it, the more I wonder how much of powder over 25 grs would burn in shorter M4 barrel and how much would just make a bigger fire ball. All the powder that is going to burn is burned up within the first few inches of the barrel. The "Fireball" is caused by the gasses created by the burned powder igniting when they enter an oxygen rich environment, not powder burning it's way down the bore and out the muzzle. |

Getting 3000 fps with 55 gr fmjbt Hornady and 26.5 gr of 335 with 400 primer out of a 16" carbine 7:1. M193 out of same rifle Chronys at 3200 fps. What's your cartridge OAL? I've been trying to stick to Lee manual recommendation of 2.20" with the 55 gr Hornady fmj. |

I've been trying to stick to Lee manual recommendation of 2.20" with the 55 gr Hornady fmj. Why? No reason to stick to the OAL listed in any manual, especially The Lee Manual which is just a borrowed copy of the Powder Manufacturers Free data, then sold. In a 223/5.56 AR you can't get close enough to the lands and still fit the Mag for OAL to affect pressure and velocity. Here is what Accurate and Ramshot says about OAL. SPECIAL NOTE ON CARTRIDGE OVERALL LENGTH “COL” It is important to note that the SAAMI “COL” values are for the firearms and ammunition manufacturers industry and must be seen as a guideline only. The individual reloader is free to adjust this dimension to suit their particular firearm-component-weapon combination. This parameter is determined by various dimensions such as 1) magazine length |

I take manual data for what it is, a guide line not.to be ignored but not to be strictly adhered to. I asked for his OAL because the QL data posted lists 2.26", which makes it impossible to seat the Hornady 55 fmj to mid canal. Quoted:
