My dad and I were trying to silver solder a AAC Brakeout to my 14.5" DD CHF barrel and it was a total disaster. The silver solder was the wrong type, which now I know the right one and I am just waiting for the new Brakeout to come since we messed it up so bad. Anyways, the silver solder ran down the barrel about an inch from the crown. We had to heat it up multiple times to remove most of the solder. Doing this made the last 3-4" of the barrels finish get majorly discolored. I am in need of some advice as to what kind of finish to put on it that will stand up to the heat of the barrel but will be as close to the phosphate finish on the barrel. The problem is that I cut down my FSB to make a low pro gas block and then had to grind the tips off of the pins so that it would fit in the DD lite rail. Now I can not remove the FSB/gas block, which means that I can not remove the barrel nut. so what ever finish I put on it, I will need to be able to do it with the Gas block and barrel  nut still on the barrel. I wouldnt mind putting the finish on the full barrel and gas block and just taping the barrel nut. I just need to know what brand of finish will produce a similar color to the black finish on my DD upper receiver, nothing shiny, just flat black. Any input is greatly appreciated. THanks

Wait, are you saying that you have silver solder inside the barrel?  If so, that would be bad...

His user name is Mr.  Custom AR............I would say it quite custom one of a kind. Are DD barrel nuts steel? Any reason why you can’t media blast the barrel and gas block and re-parkerize it? Or order a new barrel and send it to ADCO. I thought he had solder in the barrel as well and had to heat it up to get it out and the heat is what messed up the Parkerizing

no its just on the outside. This is the first rifle I have built with a 14.5" barrel and perm attached muzzle device. Everyone has a first. Just looking for some advice.

Its alright, i was kidding My first attempt at perm attaching a brake didnt go so hot either I do think your best bet is just going to be re-parkerizing... I dont know that its really going to be worth it to try to blend the new finish to the parkerizing, i think you would be better off re-parkerizing or re-finishing it with something else

Send it to ADCO.
