I came hear to ask similar- curious about HK21 builds in general and what is different about them. I can't recall any build information - might have been the last one I saw was a Vollmers conversion many years ago. I don't think HK21 kit building has been a thing yet.

RCM is going to be making a run of hk21 barrels since all the parts kits dropped. Email them to get on the list. Haven't listed price yet, but they said "not going to price gouge"
Beltfed Precision Products can modify his 21e barrels for the 21, and he is going to be making more, they run 950 if he is doing your build, not sure of price of you just buying the barrel. I already put my deposit down with BPP for the build....everyone with a kit is going to need a barrel and I'm betting he covers his builds before he is selling them a la cart. Figured better to get in line now before all these other guys do |

I think the MM barrels are available for ~1500.

If one wanted to get it done fast, and secured a barrel, PCS is doing these builds with an 8 week timeline which is CRAZY fast. I have an 8-9 month wait with BPP. I'm about to get a MM, cxl BPP and, go with PCS. |

Me too. No reply to an email I sent May 21st. FMP 21 barrels sold for 1k a month ago, now they're listing for 2k. Seems like every other HK price increase over the past few years. It doesn't stop...

There’s going to be a long line at that price. If anyone can pull it off, it would probably be them.

Is there some reason for the renewed interest? Parts kits on the market?

View Quote That’s what I was guessing. Is someone making flats or complete receivers? I’m not sure how much I would want a semi belt fed. An autosear is well out of my budget. Still kinda cool. Good luck to all of you that build or get one built. |

They are built on G3/HK91 receivers or flats. The feed box from the kit gets welded on and then the rail stiffeners. I think the rear sight base is even the same on the non-e-model 21’s.
I’m a little nervous about the feed box grafting part. |

We at RCM are going make barrels, trunnions and a hybrid bolt head. It will be a blend between the factory 21 and 21E. We are also going to make oversized rollers to help achieve headspace due to some worn out parts. Also T-Rails are on the list.

I was hesitant about bugging the shop and holding up progress. |

View Quote Getting it located and fabbing a jig to keep it square is my biggest concern as well. I have several G3 flats. I would assume one would want to do the grafting after they are bent? I need some more G3 kits to practice on. |

View Quote The few pics I’ve seen of builds online makes it look like they are folded and at least mostly welded up. I’m hoping I get some better ideas once I have the parts in hand. |

Anyone know if shorter barrels were ever a thing with HK or FMP? I know I saw a 14.4” for sale a while back but can’t remember where now. I’ve spent a lot of time searching since and haven’t seen another.

That's a cute little thing but it looks like a 51B length recoil assy.
I made a dummy barrel for my build and it ended up right at 14.5, just because I needed it to stick out of the shroud a little. I think it looks about right with that length. |

Wow, it looks like maybe an Mp5sd cocking tube? And the shroud and front bushing appear to be homebrew as well. I was planning on building a short hk21, but it never occurred to me that you could easily just weld whatever you want to the front of it. Shortening the factory shroud is a huge pain because the thin tube inside the cocking tube has to be replaced, and the cocking notch/ support will need reworked. Thanks for pointing that out.
