HK91s are a good gun IMO.  From what I hear, JLD makes a good clone.  Google for: JLD PTR 91.  I think they make them under license on HK tooling.  Not for sure though.
I am considering purchasing one from my local shop that is stickering at $1199.00 new. I might be able to get the price down, hopefully.

The HK91 is the semi-auto version of the G3, a great rifle. The PTR is now made by PTR (JLD renamed the company or some such thing). Anyway, the magazines are the biggest bargain out there. The surplus ones have been selling for peanuts for the last few years, and they are actual HK factory mags. You can get "like new" for under $10 each, and many places have had good used ones for under $5 each.

A genuine HK91 will cost you close to $2,000. The PTR is a good clone and a lot of people swear by them. They are still expensive by AR standards (sorta) at over $1,100 but that's not bad for a good battle rifle.

More reliable than a FAL, M1A, or AR10. More accurate than a FAL, just as accurate as an AR10 (standard), not as accurate as an M1A. PTR-91 is the only readily available clone being produced as of now, CDNN has them in stock for $899 for the standard version.

I just picked up a ptr91.  So far it seems like a solid rifle.  One thing I don't like is that the mags do not drop free like an AR15 (Europeans don't seem to like drop free mags).  I like the simplicity, rifle breaks down into 3 or 4 main components without tools.  It weighs a bit, but it is an MBR so that is expected.  I am not sure I like the rear sight, it seems a bit low and I get a blurry sight picture.  I found that Brugger/Thomet make a scope mount for the G3/PTR91.

I will wait until I have 1k rounds through it before I give much more than that.

It all depends on which one you get.  (Century arms is hit or miss)  I have a great one right now, I have had 2 others that werent quiet right and I eventually traded them off.  When Cetme's started drying up I decided to search out a nice one and buy it.  I found one with what I believe to be the stainless steel reciever with baked on finish.  Its the nicest Cetme I have ever seen, and I havent had any trouble with it.

I payed about 250 dollars for my first 2 and about 600 for my current one.  But now I see the prices around 700 dollars for the not so nice ones.  I got my PTR for a little over 900.

Another good quality about the G3 rifle is that HK mags are dirt cheap, but not for long.

My CETME has been problem free with exception of a tight magwell when using H&K mags (CETME mags fit fine).  A little filing on the rear block and now all my H&K mags work perfectly.

I don't know the going rate for the mags but I paid about $1 each for my stash of 100

Just remember the Cetmes now are a crap shoot. The earliest Cetmes had the stainless receivers and were put together with like new parts kits. These have a good reputation.I have one of these and the barrel, wood and all other parts look brand new.I've had mine about 5 years(?) or so and in about 500 rds it's never given me a problem as far as function. However, like many others at that time,I did have to send it back to the monkeys at Century for a crooked front sight. They fixed it free of charge.

These early Cetmes built with the like new parts kits were the ones with serial numbers up to the high 2 thousands.I know for a fact that at least to serial #26** they were still using new parts kits. From what I gathered from different sites, after they started getting into the 3 thousand serial numbers is when the like new parts kits ran out and the quality took a drastic dive.At this time is when they stopped using the stainless receivers and started using the stamped receivers.Another way of telling these early Cetmes is they were marked "Century Arms St Albans VT".

Would I buy another---Hell no unless it had a serial number less than 3000.There's been too many horror stories.I just got lucky. You're best bet is to save a few more $ and get a PTR or SAR8.

The stainless steel early model must be what I have.  I picked it up while home on leave from the desert.  I kicked myself for letting go my other ones and wanted to grab a Cetme while I could.  I have not researched it much but it looks great.

I agree with buying a PTR instead.
